What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wellness Educator position at Valley Youth House?
Valley Youth House empowers and strengthens the lives of children, youth and families through inclusive programming that builds resilience and fosters growth and independence.
We are currently looking for a qualified applicant to fill the following position: FT - Wellness Educator - ($26.42hr - $31.08hr).
Summary: The Wellness Educator/Social Worker 1 is responsible for facilitating clinical sessions both in groups and individually. Duties include recruitment, facilitation, and documentation of clinical groups. Additionally, the Wellness Educator/Social Worker 1 works on de-escalating youth in crisis situations, and connects youth to outside ongoing services. This includes, but is not limited to developing and connecting youth with resources, facilitating groups and individual sessions. The Wellness Educator will document all work provided and submits reports according to agency, county, state and federal requirements. The Wellness Educator is under the authority of the Senior Vice President of SE programs, the Program Director, and reports directly to the Social Work Supervisor.
Essential Functions:
To provide high quality clinical direction and leadership to staff in all program settings and fostering a positive youth/human development environment.- A minimum of 15% of working time will be spent providing individual counseling services to assigned clients in clinical areas.
- A minimum of 35% of working time will be spent providing group instructor in clinical services areas including, parenting, anger management, LGBTQ supports, and others as identified by program needs.
- Ensure up-to-date paper & electronic program and client records in compliance with agency practices & protocols, county, state & federal regulations and private grant requirements as applicable.
- To serve as positive program liaison with all community treatment resource agencies. This includes expanding program knowledge and usage of appropriate resources.
- Review and update "library/workbook" of program activities, curriculum and clinical resources Program Supervisor and any other team members.
- To provide effective de-escalation and counseling to escalated, distressed, and/or disruptive young people and assist in the development and implementation of safety plans for all youth as needed.
- Represent the agency in a professional manner; and, maintain positive community relationships developed as part of the critical functions, and serve as a liaison to child welfare & juvenile justice staff members (or their representative agencies) in a proactive manner.
- Address and report any crisis or critical incident as defined by agency and/or county, state or federal regulations according to the agency's formalized practice and protocols.
- Understand and adhere to Valley Youth House policies, practices and procedures.
- To participate in weekly scheduled supervision with direct supervisor and be prepared with an agenda.
- To attend and actively participate in all designated team meetings.
- To attend both external and internal agency trainings and workshops and complete and pass all required trainings as set forth in the funder and licensing regulations as required.
- To complete other related tasks as appropriate or assigned.
Qualifications:
The Wellness Educator/ Social Worker 1 shall be a mature individual with the ability to identify with and adapt to the goals and philosophies of positive youth development in the independent living program. The Wellness Educator/Social Worker 1 will possess sound judgment and knowledge of adolescent development, clinical group instruction and curriculum development. Successful team members are creative thinkers and flexible in their approaches to people and projects. They will never have been convicted of any prohibited criminal or child abuse offense. They shall possess a minimum of three years of experience working with adolescents and a Masters in counselling, social work or an equivalent combination of experience in the field and education.
