JOB SUMMARY:
Administers orthoptic and/or pleoptic diagnostic tests for patients with ocular motility disorders independently. Assists in treatment to develop or rehabilitate binocularvision. May also perform duties of an ophthalmic technician.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of patients with eye muscle disorders and/or amblyopia; administer diagnostic tests such as measuring visual acuity, ocular motility, and binocular function.
  • Prepares reports and confers with ophthalmologist about patient progress; instruct patients during office therapy and in the utilization of exercises for home therapy.
  • Interacts with the patient in a professional manner using AIDET techniques; serves as a role model/leader in patient interactions.
  • Leads team in maintaining a clean working environment, stocked rooms, equipment, and EOC guidelines.

OPHTHALMOLOGY (INTERMEDIATE):- Demonstrates mastery level competency of ophthalmology in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering results without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.

CUSTOMER SERVICE - (INTERMEDIATE):- Keeps management informed on all aspects of one or more projects. Takes personal responsibility to ensure external and internal customer satisfaction is met despite pressures and/or significant obstacles. Discusses options with customer for alternative ways to meet expectations cost-effectively and efficiently. Commands respect and confidence from customers, and identifies, influences and creates business opportunities. Negotiates with customers for changes in service levels, understanding the business rationale for those changes. Deals with unexpected customer demands smoothly and without conflict.

OPHTHALMIC DISORDERS (INTERMEDIATE):- Demonstrates mastery level of knowledge/care of ophthalmic disorders in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering ophthalmic disorders services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.

OPHTHALMIC TESTING (INTERMEDIATE):- Demonstrates mastery level of ophthalmic testing in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering products and services using ophthalmic testing without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.

Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) in an Accredited Orthoptic Program. and < 1 year relevant experience

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration (LCR):

  • Certified Orthoptist Within 6 months
