Job Title: Ultrasonographer
General Summary of Duties: Provides professional care for Family Health Center patients following established standards and practices.
Supervision Received: Reports directly to the Clinical Supervisor
Supervision Exercised: Supervise, monitor and delegate as directed by the Minnesota Board of Nursing registered nurse Scope of Practice and Nurse Practice Act, Minnesota Statute 148.171.
Examples of Duties: (This list is not all inclusive)
· Review of vital signs, history and documents same in electronic medical record (EMR) initiating progress note and updating medication list. Provides patient/family education regarding wound care, venous procedures, sleep apnea, diabetes, nutrition, safety, nutrition and vaccines. Anticipates and performs preliminary specimen. Prepares for and assists provider with procedures such as sutures, toenail removal, wound debridement, vein procedures, and wound care/dressings. Facilitates scheduling and follow up for patients referred for consults and procedures. Maintains organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area. Attends meetings as required. Maintain satisfactory, regular and predictable attendance by reporting to work as scheduled and keeping unscheduled absences to a minimum. Ensures all communications reflect the standards and mission of Vascular Surgery Associates. Maintains patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA Guidelines. Displays a consistently positive, cooperative, self-motivated, courteous and professional attitude. Performs other duties as assigned. The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position. Performing the ultrasound and ensuring the transducer (probe) is capturing images correctly.
· Explaining the ultrasound procedure to patients in order to avoid confusion.
· Maintaining ultrasound equipment and sterilizing the room in which the procedure takes place.
The Ultrasonographer is also responsible for daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment
Education Requirements: Associate of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A sonographer is a healthcare professional who specializes in the use of ultrasonic imaging devices to produce diagnostic images, scans, videos or three-dimensional volumes of anatomy and diagnostic data.
Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Ability to assess the specific age-related needs of patients. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly.
License/Certification: Minnesota license, unencumbered and in good standing. CPR certification current.
Experience: Will consider a new graduate, but would prefer 1-2 years of experience. Wound care experience is a plus.
Other Functions and Duties: Prepares rooms for exams and procedures. Sanitizes rooms and sterilizes equipment. Logging on and logging off computers. Maintains educational supplies/brochures and informs office staff when supplies need to be ordered. Monitors medications, dressings supplies and informs office manager when supplies need to be ordered. Maintains equipment and reports to office manager when repairs are needed. Performs triage.
