Job Purpose: The First Assistant Golf professional will assist the Head Golf Professional with managing and overseeing all elements of the Club's golf-related activities resulting in an exceptional overall golf experience for club members and guests. Provide top quality individual and group instruction to members and guests. clear direction to members, guests, and staff. Demonstrate effective communication both verbally and in writing to provide mentorship and help develop the other Assistant Golf Professionals and have a set them up for success attitude. All duties of the position shall be performed with a commitment to the highest level of customer service, emphasize working in a team atmosphere, and strive for total satisfaction for our members and guests.
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervision of all Golf Ops facets in the absence of the Head Golf Professional.
- Assists in scheduling and staffing of golf desk.
- Manages outside service supervisors to ensure staff levels are appropriate.
- Oversees tee time and tournament software, including tee sheet management
- Ensures day-to-day activities in the driving range and bag room area are consistent with Club policy.
- Interprets and enforces the Clubs rules and regulations and ensures that the outside services staff
is familiar with and enforces these rules.
- Enforce pace of play.
- Monitors and works the range to provide member assistance and ensures range standards.
- Work closely and communicates with all team members to enhance the clubs image as a first-class facility that prides itself in exceeding member and guest expectations.
- Prepares for all golf outings including coordinating scorecards, cart signs, rules sheets, score sheets, favors, pairing sheets, and hole assignments. Perform scoring as required by members/guests.
- Coordinates and organizes member & Outside group events. Liaise with committee chairs and clients on all details of their event.
- Understand contracts and resumes for groups and identify new opportunities for group business.
- Maximize retail profits through effective sales techniques related to green fees, merchandise, food and beverage and lodging.
- On a day-to-day basis, coordinate and communicate to the sales offices at the lodge and Loews regarding any operational golf and event needs. Coordination may include pairings, scoring, tournament set up and catering requests.
- Participates and attends in membership golf committees and meetings when asked.
- Specializes and facilitates orders and inventory levels on all hard goods products.
- Incorporates safe work practices in job performance. Reconciles daily tee sheets, performs check-in, and receives payments from members and guests. Resolves discrepancies as it applies to duplicate charges and over or under payment.
- Assist in maintaining the overall appearance, attractiveness and cleanliness of the golf shop, merchandise and surrounding areas.
- Assists with training, supervision, and evaluation of both the golf shop and outside services staff.
- Maintain gift certificate procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Class A PGA Member
- Minimum of 5 years experience as an Assistant Golf Professional at a quality PGA recognized facility
- Basic knowledge of the Rules of Golf and how to apply them in tournament situations.
Basic Required Skills:
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
- Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
- Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must possess basic computational ability.
- Thorough understanding of course rotation and tee time arrangement.
- Must possess computer skills, including Microsoft Office 97, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop and lift to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis.
- Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
- Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and other employees.
- Ability to work in a standing and mobile position for long periods of time.
