Description
Overall Responsibility
Receives patients, collects required records/payments, answers questions, and provides directions. Serves as liaison between patients and therapy staff. Understands services provided by individual clinicians.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Greet, check in and check out patients
- Schedule new and follow up therapy appointments; check demographics and insurance coverage of existing patients
- Explain policies to patients (EOB, late charge, collection charges)
- Prepare appropriate paperwork for new patients (progress reports, discharges)
- Create referral for each patient
- Prepare claim data
- Review claim data for accuracy before sending to the Business Office
- Obtain authorizations as needed for eligible patients
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for patients with private insurance
- Answer phones/ check messages
- Obtain and fax information to the Business Office upon request
- Collect deductibles, co-pays, and co-insurance
- Prepare deposit
- Count petty cash, as applicable
- Score functional scales
- Call New Patients and Re-Evals
- Create accounts for new patients
- Add labs, as needed
- Respond to posting issues

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and twelve to eighteen months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively with patients, outside vendors or other employees within the organization. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
Mathematical Skills
Basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing figures. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest and percentages.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

The employee in this position needs to frequently move about the office. The employee frequently moves and or transports up to 25 pounds. The employee may occasionally be required to position self to assist patients and move equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to identify, recognize, observe, inspect documentation and equipment.

Work is performed in an office area. Work may be challenging at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Contact involves dealing with sick people and with people in pain.
