The Senior Accountant will be responsible for assisting with various Accounting and Finance functions, by ensuring that US GAAP and Tax policies are adhered to in the highest ethical level as well as abiding by all Verita policies. Verita is seeking a Senior Accountant with the ability to grow in Finance and Accounting. The person will have 3-7 years of experience in accounting in a corporate environment. The Senior Accountant is not a remote or hybrid position. The person will be working out of the office in Plymouth Michigan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to all Generally Accepted Accounting Policies when analyzing accounts and preparing journal entries
- Responsible for assisting with the month and year end closing processes
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly
- Perform analysis of actual results to plan results with explanations of variance drivers.
- Accurately and timely compile reports for Senior Management including Actual results, Variance reports, , Personal Property Tax filings, Tax packages, Yearly census, and account reconciliations ensuring compliance to GAAP and Verita policies
- Monitor fixed asset reporting including depreciation, asset lives, personal property tax and all capitalizations
- Coordinate the local and state departments on personal property tax issues
- Support the Director of Finance & Accounting in any special projects
- Coordinate with the Warehousing/Purchasing Group to ensure compliance with all inventory policies including physical count programs and reports as well as the day-to-day transaction process.
- Facilitate interdepartmental group meetings to streamline reporting within the organization
- All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
- Three to Seven years of accounting experience in a corporate environment.
- Knowledge of commonly used accounting concepts, practices and procedures
- Demonstrated ability working with Accounting Software packages (NetSuite experience a plus).
- Ability to identify problems and prioritize to meet financial goals.
- Ability to rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform accounting functions.
- Ability to meet deadlines and maintain accurate information.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft applications; including Word and Excel.
- Excellent communications skills both written and verbal.
ESSENTIAL PHYISCAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to withstand periods of high stress.
- Ability to lift 50# boxes as the need arises, especially at year end
