Position Title: Sales Manager
Department: Sales
Reports to: VP of Operations
Vermeer Great Plains – 100% EMPLOYEE-OWNED COMPANY
An authorized distributor for Vermeer equipment in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Western Missouri with five branch locations across the region. A 100% employee-owned company, we provide dedicated sales, rentals, parts, and service support for customers in the tree care, landscaping, wood waste, organic recycling, underground construction, and mining industries.
POSITION FUNCTION:
The Sales Manager will efficiently manage and direct all aspects of the Sales Department operations in a courteous and cordial manner, ensuring customer satisfaction and maximum efficiency for the business. The Sales Manager will coordinate activities and cooperate with other departments of the business to best serve the needs of the customer.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage, supervise and direct the Sales Department members while building their skill and knowledge
- Manage operating expenses for sales department
- Train new Sales Team members in their role with the business
- Promote and oversee equipment sales, rentals and customer relationships in assigned territory
- Maintain a professional and positive relationship with Vermeer Manufacturing and all Alliance Partners
- Assist Sales Team in negotiating sales and service agreements, prospecting, and qualifying potential new business
- Manage inventory needs for sales projections, equipment demonstrations and training
- Coordinate internal logistics of equipment movement
- Responsible for developing forecast of equipment sales and rentals for assigned region
- Create and track sales, rentals, market share and gross profit goals per territory and conduct quarterly review with Sales Representatives and Specialists
- Effectively communicate information concerning sales, customer needs, product performance, pricing, training, or other topics of interest to other Sales Associates, Parts Managers, and Product Specialists
- Complete the annual enablement and IDP for each Sales Representative, Product Specialist
- Perform (no less than 2) full-day ride-alongs per Sales Representative every quarter and report on daily activity to Direct Manager
- Provide schedule oversight for Product Specialists and HDD Tooling specialists
- Coordinate and provide product demonstrations and training to customers as needed
- Responsible for conducting annual sales meeting and/or monthly sales training
- Perform a quarterly training event for designated region to include product training, strategy updates, and market share analysis
- Establish a conquest account list for each salesman annually and track progress quarterly
- Manage and maintain expected travel schedule
- Assist company Sales Leads to help promote team development
- Stay current with technical changes, continuing your education by Factory schools, VGP training, etc.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adheres to all policies and procedures as specified in Employee Handbook
- Other duties as assigned
Measure of success determined by established company guidelines, including but not limited to the ability to perform the above-mentioned duties, feedback from customers, ability to take guidance and direction from Manager professionally, and execute upon such feedback.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be committed to and take a pro-active approach to our Company Mission, Vision and Values
- Strong PC proficiency with MS Windows and MS Office Suite; CDK a plus
- The ability to quickly build rapport with customers and suppliers
- Advanced working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions
- Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail
- Highly organized with the ability to multi-task efficiently
- Strong business acumen
- Demonstrated safe work habits
- High degree of customer service to both internal and external customers
- Ability to conduct yourself in a professional, ethical and reliable manner
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate professionally, respectfully and honestly at all times
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear 100% of the time
- Ability to be exposed to extreme weather elements, including wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat regularly
- Ability to withstand moderate to high noise level in working environment regularly
- Must be able to work overtime and/or weekends as needed
- Bilingual a plus
- Extensive travel required (50-60% or more of the time)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sales and Marketing, or related field and 5 years of experience in outside heavy equipment sales in the same/similar industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Heavy equipment operation experience required
- 3 years of progressive leadership experience required
- Background check, pre-employment and drug testing required
- Valid DL with no driving restrictions and clean MVR required
