BASIC FUNCTIONProvide individual math and science tutoring to students. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise peer and professional tutors. Review student requests for tutors and assign tutors. Work with faculty on behalf of students.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESManage and coordinate mathematics and science tutoring services.
Oversee the tutor/student match-up process, schedule and assign tutors to the Math Lab, hold staff meetings.Monitor student progress and maintain appropriate records on progress and tutoring activities. Prepare reports on students' progress and the delivery of services.Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and collect timecards for peer and professional math and science tutors.Identify students in need of tutoring, in coordination with other student success areas and faculty if needed.Perform administrative tasks associated with the Math Lab including maintaining records for programs and services and for University and government reports; oversee maintenance of Math Lab facility, equipment, and supplies.Plan, write, produce, and distribute Math Lab schedules and brochures; design/revise various forms.Publicize services through classroom visits, meetings with department chairs, faculty, and staff, Academic Support publications, and campus events such as Career Fair, Open House, and registration.Design and develop math/science workshops and support services for under-prepared or math/science anxious students. Prepare and present workshops and classes on mathematics and science, as well as other developmental workshops that provide students with non-cognitive skills development. Coordinate supplemental instruction in mathematics and science.Tutor students in mathematics and science, and other subjects as necessary; instruct in study skills, test taking, and basic computer skills.Confer regularly with supervisor, other Academic Support staff, faculty, and other University offices and personnel to plan, coordinate, and evaluate services and activities, exchange information, investigate and resolve problems, consult about individual students, refer students for assistance with special needs.Serve on University committees as appropriate.Demonstrate inclusivity and provide excellent customer service in all modalities, including in-person, telephone, e-mail, video call, live chat, texting, and the like.Consult with faculty about teaching mathematics and science and publicize services through classroom visits and meetings with department chairs.Assist the Assistant Director of Academic Support or TRIO SSS Program Director with planning, coordinating, teaching, and evaluating the Summer Transition/Bridge Program, if applicable.Assist the TRIO SSS Program Director in providing financial literacy, and other programming vital to student development and success to TRIO students, if applicable.Keep abreast of current developments in the field.
