What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Management Director position at Verndale?

About the Project Management Director Position

We are looking for an experienced Project Management Director with a passion for working hand-in-hand with our clients to deliver world-class interactive experiences.  Our work includes experience design, digital marketing campaigns, eCommerce and CMS implementations, CRM programs and content development. To succeed in this role, you will need to be a natural leader, an advocate for your team and your clients, have a passion for technology and possess strong project management and communication skills.

Our PM Directors operate as both a team lead for project management (30% allocation) and an independent contributor (70% allocation). As a PM Director, you will work cross-functionally to help establish and refine processes, systems and best practices for project management and then be responsible for the training and mentoring of your team of project managers. You will also work directly with clients and team members on the execution of projects where you will be responsible for resource management, timeline, budget, scope and project delivery.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Solve problems. Recognize the nature of each problem and ensure the right people are involved to help solve it. Be an active contributor to that solution, not just a communication facilitator.
  • Maintain an understanding of Verndale's capabilities and be able to match those capabilities up with client needs. Recognize gaps in capabilities and work with management to devise solutions to fill those gaps.
  • Work with clients and internal teams to ensure that all work is in line with clients' short- and long-term strategic goals.
  • Work closely with your Group Account Director, Technical Director and BA Lead to manage delivery and client relationships for your assigned client portfolio.
  • Assist with the scoping, estimating, pricing, proposal and SOW generation for new opportunities.
  • Manage and mentor your assigned team of Project Managers.
  • Oversee the ongoing work, budgets, schedules and resource utilization for your entire team and distribute work to your project managers.
  • Act as the primary project manager where required to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Define and enhance project and business processes, ensure teams are following appropriate processes. Know why process is important but don't be afraid to deviate from it when the situation warrants it. Draw on your agency background and creativity to suggest and implement process enhancements.
  • Facilitate communication and alignment between Verndale's team, client teams, and third parties as needed. Break down barriers that impede progress.
  • Create, manage, and communicate project/initiative schedules to all involved parties and stakeholders.
  • Keep up to date on a broad spectrum of technologies, recognizing when new technologies or updates offer new opportunities for clients.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience managing teams that build websites, web applications, or mobile apps in an agency environment.
  • Experience managing a team using an agile development process. Scrum Master certification preferred.
  • Previous experience with direct reports preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of Project Management tools, techniques, and processes and when each is best applied.
  • Know a bit of everything that goes into web projects, from strategy and digital marketing considerations to prototyping and visual design, front and back-end development, and hosting and networking.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to interact seamlessly with both technical (IT) and marketing groups in client organizations.
