Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist

Job description:

We are looking for an amazing and adaptable veterinary assistant to join our team! We are a busy, 1.5 doctor mobile practice that services the Northern Virginia area. We pride ourselves on providing gold standard medical care, and prioritize the use of fear-free techniques.

Job responsibilities:

• Taking a medical history, invoicing, documenting, and otherwise assisting DVM during appointments
• Collect and prepare laboratory samples such as fecal samples, bloodwork, urine, ear cytologies, skin cytologies
• Obtain TPR on canine and feline patients
• Restrain animals safely utilizing fear-free techniques
• Communicate with administrative team, DVM, and other staff effectively
• Ensure cleanliness of mobile unit and storage areas
• Assist with client education and gold-standard wellness recommendations
• Willingness to participate in car karaoke welcomed, but not required
• Ability to create medical notes and invoices based on appointment schedule
• Answering phone calls, texts, and emails with compassion, good grammar and spelling, and attention to detail
• Evaluating prescription requests and communicating with veterinarian about prescription approval
• Stay in touch with the house call team during the day, send over prescriptions to pharmacies using e-faxing software
• Timely completion of weekly and monthly checklists
• Process payments and handle financial transactions
• Provide general information to clients regarding pet care, nutrition, and preventive medicine
• Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, and animal care practices

Job requirements:

• High school diploma or GED
• Employee may be required to operate a company vehicle, valid driver’s license required
• Knowledge of medical terminology and animal handling
• Basic computer skills
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to lift/push or otherwise move 50 lbs
• 2 years of veterinary experience
• Good organizational skills
