Product Line Applications Engineer

Summary: Provides technical expertise through sales presentations, product demonstrations, installation and maintenance of company products. Assists the sales staff in assessing potential application of company products to meet customer needs and preparing detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer applications/solutions. May build a mini-application based on customer requirements to demonstrate feasibility of the application, often requiring rapid prototyping and/or product demo for client. May provide software development and consultation to prospective users and/or product capability assessment and validation. Ensures that the product application/solution is functioning according to specifications. May provide follow-up support to company sales staff and customer personnel by disseminating technical information on specific applications. Match here if incumbents are providing both pre and post-sales technical support; working with the customer from prior to the sale, through delivery and installation. VIAVI is looking for a Product Line Applications Engineer for our Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) products at our Wichita, Kansas or Las Vegas, Nevada locations with remote work a possibility. This is a cross-functional role within Product Management that works closely with the development teams and customers. Responsibilities: · Providing technical expertise through presentations, product demonstrations, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of PNT products. · Assisting product management in assessing potential application of products to meet customer needs and preparing detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer applications/solutions. · Building solutions based on customer requirements to demonstrate feasibility, often requiring rapid prototyping and/or product demonstrations for a client. · Providing consultation to prospective users and/or product capability assessment and validation. · Ensuring that the product application/solution is functioning according to specifications. · Providing follow-up support to product management and customer personnel by disseminating technical information on specific applications. · Frequent travel with some periods of more than two weeks per month. Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements: Required experience: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, RF, or Software Engineering. (An equivalent amount of related experience may be substituted for this academic background.) Ability to obtain a security clearance Desired experience: Familiarity with precision timing and frequency electronics, positioning systems like GPS, and inertial navigation systems for commercial and defense applications.
