Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and disinfecting all areas of a facility. Perform basic cleaning, sanitation of an assigned building and associated grounds including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, trash removal, etc. Provide high level customer service for events and community activities including set-up/clean-up.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform custodial duties such as cleaning, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing and trash removal of offices, cafeterias, break rooms, bathrooms, hallways, entryways, and other areas of a facility including exterior grounds.
- Provide set up, tear down and cleaning after activities. Respond to requests, last-minute needs, unscheduled events, changes, etc. regarding building use.
- Move and set up furniture and equipment as requested.
- Monitor and inspect building facilities for safety and cleanliness. Report areas requiring maintenance to supervisor. Notify building supervisor of hazardous or harmful situations.
- Secure facility by locking doors, windows, and setting alarms. Monitor building security throughout shift.
- Report supply and equipment needs to the Lead Maintenance Technician.
- Ensure proper use, identification, mixture and application of chemicals, including the requirements and use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Perform special cleaning and assist with renovation projects. Operate cleaning equipment and assist with floor maintenance and restoration as needed.
- Respond as essential personnel in case of an emergency, weather or environmental event, and/or facility closure.
- Keep records of maintenance, monitor cleaning supplies, restock supplies in bathrooms, breakrooms and other areas.
- Prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively with a team.
- Work independently, comprehend and follow written or verbal directions.
- Willingness to adhere to attendance requirements, including regular and punctual employee presence.
- Recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
- Remove snow and ice from sidewalks as needed to ensure safe egress to and from the building.
- Must be flexible with schedule, weekends and afterhours will be likely.

Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or the equivalent required.
- At least one year of custodial experience preferred.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal Relations and Customer Service skills.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and cleaning products.
- Ability to promote and follow building and departmental procedures.
- Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to follow directions.
- Strong customer service skills– with a “servant-like mentality”.
- Ability to act with integrity and professionalism.
- Must have the ability to act promptly and have a sense of urgency.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift at least 35 pounds, reach above shoulder, stoop down, climb up ladder, and bend down.
