VCA Blum Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Veterinary Technician for our support team. Come join our growing animal hospital with 7 veterinarians and more than 40 support staff! Summary: Our Veterinary Technicians support our veterinarians by providing a high level of patient care and technical skills to obtain lab samples, administer treatments, assist with surgical procedures, and more. They will also provide educational support for our clients and are a liaison between our patients and veterinarians to ensure patients are receiving top quality care. Job Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Perform laboratory work in cooperation with the veterinary team Effectively perform sample collections such as venipuncture, cystocentesis, fecal collection, ear cytology, etc. Place IV catheters, administer vaccines, administer medications via oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous routes Prepare blood, urine, tissue, and other specimen samples for outside laboratory analysis Work in conjunction with all technical staff across the hospital to ensure hospitalized patients are receiving the best possible care and communicating frequently with the team Use and maintain laboratory equipment, including the Idexx ProCyte and Catalyst hematology machines, the SediVue urinalysis machine, and SNAP Pro Use digital radiography machine Properly annotate medical records Provide client education including post-surgical discharge instructions, answering client questions during technician appointments, and phone call consultations Triage emergency situations Surgical preparation and monitoring, including calculation and administration of anesthetic drugs Perform dental prophylaxis and dental radiographs under the supervision of a veterinarian Qualifications: Can successfully complete most, if not all of the above listed responsibilities Personable and energetic with a cooperative team mentality Experience working with animals and confidence working with dogs and cats Professional, task-oriented, and pays good attention to detail Ability to work a flexible schedule, including every other Saturday Ability to stand comfortably for extended periods of time Ability to perform "range of motion" tasks including reaching, stretching, bending, lifting, kneeling Professional demeanor and judgement Ability to multitask We are seeking a full-time employee.
