Substitute School Nurse
GENERAL INFORMATION:
This is a substitute position serving as needed to fill in for our Certified School Nurse. The Substitute School Nurse may be asked to work half day or full day as needed when the regular School Nurse is absent from work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- State certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse in good standing meeting all applicable federal and state licensure requirements
- Required background clearances
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong interpersonal skills to include the ability to work effectively with teachers, parents and students from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent organizational skills
- Interest in keeping up with best health care practices
- Working knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate services between the school, local health agency and other community resources
- Ability to develop and maintain health records on students, as well as develop positive working relationships
- Positive attitude toward children
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement school health program to align with federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies
- Communicate updates via daily report to regular School Nurse
- Serve as a resource person on health issues
- Screen and conduct health appraisals for students and staff
- Correspond with parents on health needs of children
- Assist in implementing and maintaining safety standards, programs for monitoring communicable and/or infectious diseases among students and personnel, procedure for reporting hazardous conditions; establish safety rules, and ensure cleanliness of nursing services work area, treatment area, and student care area
