Position Information:
The Village of Barboursville is looking to hire an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to operate heavy machinery for construction, demolition, or excavation projects.
Position Responsibilities:
· Operates excavator, backhoe, dump truck, skid steer, and other heavy equipment
· Prepares construction sites
· Cleans up worksites from hazardous or obsolete material
· Handles and transports materials (e.g. cement) and equipment (e.g. drills and grinders)
· Inspects and fuels vehicles prior to beginning shift
· Performs routine maintenance and repairs
· Follows instructions from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks (e.g. digging, stacking up goods)
· Puts up warning signs (e.g. signposts, cones) for vehicles and passersby
· Reports issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
· Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Qualified applicants must possess a Class A or Class B Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) in the state of WV. Preference will be given to those applicants with a Class A CDL. Applicants must also pass a drug-screening and background check before start of employment.
Education & Experience:
Applicants must provide a current resume with references. At least 2 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator is required.
Requirements & Skills:
· Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities
· Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains
· Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads of 50-75 pounds, prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery, etc.)
· Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary
· Ability to follow instructions
· Communication and teamwork skills
· Commitment to safety rules
Work Environment:
This position requires working outside in all types of weather. Successful applicants must have the ability and willingness to work in adverse conditions, not just in extreme weather but in enclosed spaces as well.
Starting Salary:
$20/hour, plus benefits
