What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Technician position at Village of Hanover Park?
Assists Engineering Division in the application of principles, methods, and techniques of civil engineering. Exercises independent judgment in the absence of specific policies and/or guidance from superiors.
Inspects Village projects including concrete sidewalks, curbs, and gutters; the installation of water mains, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and street lighting; and asphalt resurfacing and complete street reconstruction.
Follows IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities standards while overseeing Village construction projects.
Inspects private development construction sites to determine conformance of site to design plans and specifications.
Conducts or witnesses hydrant flow testing.
Assists in locating the Village's underground utilities, such as water mains, sewers and street light cables.
Resolves drainage complaint issues and inspects homeowner and contractor drain tile installations.
Conducts materials testing and analysis and prepares reports detailing the tests conducted and their results.
Surveys project sites to obtain and analyze topographical details of sites.
Assists engineers to ensure that construction and repair of water and wastewater treatment systems meet pollution control requirements.
Designs and drafts detailed dimensional drawings, such as those needed for roadway, utility, and storm-water management projects utilizing AutoCAD.
Updates and maintains computer assisted drafting (CAD) databases and maps, generates drawings and bid packets, and provides and/or creates maps and drawings for Village departments upon request.
Serves as liaison between the Village and our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) consultant. Assists that consultant, as needed, with conversion of existing AutoCAD files. Assists Village Engineer with requests from other Departments to GIS consultant.
Plans and prioritizes own daily work schedule and some of the unit's group work activities to ensure that they are performed according to established procedures and/or standards within the department.
Participates in developing departmental policies and procedures.
Reviews utility permits for work in Village right-of-way.
Assists other Public Works divisions as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May oversee employees that are temporarily assigned to the Engineering Division for specific tasks, including interns.
