What are the responsibilities and job description for the Working Foreman position at Village of Pittsford?
This position is responsible for the lead supervision of a small crew in construction, maintenance, repair, and cleaning work. Employees form part of the work crew, with the Working Foreman supervising and assisting with hands-on work. The employee reports directly to the Mayor and/or their designee or Superintendent of Public Works.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

THE WORKING FORMAN HELPS DIRECT, PLAN, AND ORGANISE THE WORK OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS CREW AND PARTICIPATES IN ONE (1) OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING:
- Coordinates with the Superintendent of Public Works regarding the supervision of employees and assisting in the planning and organizing of the public works department and its related activities.
- Assist the Superintendent of Public Works in developing the annual budget.
- Coordinates with Administrative personnel in updating department records to include work activity, equipment maintenance, and safety protocols
- Rotates after-hours calls with the Superintendent of Public Works.
- Directs and participates in work activities, such as installing, repairing, and cleaning highway, storm, and sanitary sewer systems components.
- Snow and ice removal activities.
- Buildings and grounds maintenance activities.
- Installs, maintains, repairs, and cleans highway and sewer system components.
- Constructs, patches, and grades roads and installs new sidewalks.
- Works on excavation, drainage, and embankment projects.
- Cleans clogged pipes and sewer lines of roots, sludge, and debris.
- Cleans ditches, culverts, and basins.
- Plants and prune trees, grade lawns, rake leaves, cut grass and brush, plant flower
- beds, cut wood, and perform other ground maintenance activities.
- Dust, sweeps, and mops.
- Performs a wide variety of activities relating to the electrical, mechanical, and/or construction trades.
- Maintains and repairs equipment, including motorized equipment.
- Maintains and repairs sewer lift stations.
- Loads and unloads vehicles and trucks.
- Operates motor vehicles and power tools.
- Operates telephones and two-way radios for dispatching purposes.
- Reviews work in progress regularly with the Superintendent of Public Works and the Village Mayor.
- Operates a variety of automotive and mechanical equipment and tools.
- Instructs and supervises employees in properly and safely using materials, automotive and mechanical equipment, and tools.
- Maintains or oversees the maintenance of their department records, including personnel, attendance, work activity, and cost records.
- Responds to calls for assistance or complaints from citizens.
- Oversees the maintenance and repair of all department equipment and tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience performing mechanical or functional duties for which the jurisdiction's operations are designed.
PROMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: One (1) year of permanent status as a Laborer, Motor Equipment Operator, or similar title in the jurisdiction making the appointment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: At the time of appointment, employees must possess the appropriate driver’s license for the vehicle(s) being operated. It is the jurisdiction’s responsibility to ensure that .
