What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Advocate - Second Shift position at Violence Prevention Center Southwestern Illinois?
Overview:
The Violence Prevention Center seeks a full-time shelter advocate to join our Emergency Shelter team. This is an opportunity for a patient, caring, and supportive professional to work with survivors of domestic violence. This position provides supportive counseling, group sessions, advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, information, referrals, and related services to survivors residing in the shelter.
Responsibilities:
· Encourages and assists clients in meeting their goals.
· Answer domestic violence crisis hotline calls and respond appropriately.
· Monitors the shelter for safety, order, and overall operations.
· Asses family needs, including discussing complex topics of abuse history, child abuse and neglect, parenting issues, and DCFS involvement with compassion and without judgment.
· Collaborate with Case Managers and additional staff to promote safety and positive outcomes for residents.
· Communicate complex topics, including Illinois Domestic Violence Act rights, the court process for Orders of Protection, and how to report violations.
· Maintain a safe, clean, and well-stocked shelter environment for residents and staff.
Qualifications:
· Enthusiasm for the mission of the Violence Prevention Center and the survivors we serve
· Minimum of 4 years related education/experience required.
· BA/BS in counseling, social work, or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Ability to work and connect with diverse populations.
· Capacity to work independently while in collaboration with a team.
· Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation required.
Hours: This position works a regular schedule of Monday-Friday from 2:00 pm -10:00 pm. This position will occasionally fill weekend shifts when needed.
Compensation: This position offers a salary range of $40,000- $45,000 with a benefits package including health, dental, and life insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan options.
