What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Veterinary Technician position at Violet Crown Veterinary Specialists?

Local, privately owned, and DVM owner-operated emergency and specialty hospital. We’re looking for emotionally intelligent collaborators to accomplish our goals of providing 24/7/365 veterinary emergency and specialty care to the Central Texas community at our brand new facility in Bee Cave, Texas.

Your Qualifications

  • Two years of experience as a veterinary technician in an emergency, specialty, or fast-paced general practice environment
  • High EQ and collaborative nature


Minimum requirements include proficiency in:

  • Medical terminology
  • Low stress animal handling techniques
  • Evaluation of patients upon arrival to determine triage status
  • Patient care fundamentals, including monitoring, treatment administration, and procedural assistance for both inpatients and outpatients
  • Knowledge of commonly utilized medications and drug dosage calculation
  • Oral, subcutaneous, IM, and IV medication administration
  • Collection of blood and bodily fluids for diagnostic in-house and reference lab testing
  • CRI calculation and administration
  • Radiation safety techniques and radiographic image acquisition
  • Principles of transfusion medicine
  • Principles of CPR; experience participating in codes preferred
  • Stabilization and maintenance of critical patients
  • Vascular access techniques including IV catheterization, central line placement, arterial catheterization, and intraosseous catheterization
  • Knowledge of common emergency medicine protocols
  • Placement and/or maintenance of NG tubes, thoracostomy tubes, nasal oxygen cannulas, and urinary catheters
  • Oxygen administration and therapy
  • Anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery with and without mechanical ventilation
