Virginia Beach Friends School is seeking a dynamic and experienced Elementary School Teacher to inspire and educate our students in accordance with Quaker values. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in elementary education, a commitment to fostering a nurturing learning environment, and an understanding of Quaker educational principles, or willingness to learning about Quaker principles.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging and developmentally appropriate lesson plans that align with the school's curriculum and Quaker values.
- Cultivate a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where each student feels valued, respected, and empowered to learn.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to meet the diverse needs of students, including differentiation and small group instruction.
- Integrate Quaker "SPICES" (Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship) into daily classroom activities and interactions.
- Foster critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration among students through hands-on activities, inquiry-based learning, and cooperative projects.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and administrators to support student growth and well-being.
- Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment methods, and provide timely feedback to students and parents.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, behavior, and academic performance.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and stay current with best practices in education.
- Uphold the mission and values of Virginia Beach Friends School in all aspects of the role.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Prior experience teaching in a Elementary School classroom.
- Knowledge of child development theories and best practices in elementary education.
- Understanding of Quaker educational principles and a commitment to integrating them into daily teaching practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and engage parents as partners in education.
- Flexibility, creativity, and adaptability in responding to the needs of individual students and the classroom community.
- Commitment to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning environment.
- Enthusiasm for working with young learners and a passion for making a positive impact on their lives.
- Preference for educators who have familiarity with the Super Kids reading curriculum and the Math in Focus math curriculum.
