General Position Description:
VCU School of Nursing is seeking applicants for an hourly Research Assistant. Under direct supervision, this position will be responsible for supporting the Principal Investigators, clinical research coordinator, other research assistants, and other more senior members of the clinical study team with administrative, regulatory, and study activity tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist with recruitment, enrollment, and completion of study activities, as well as data entry.
- Assist with data collection at study visits this will include days and potentially evenings and/or weekends, i.e., days/times that are most convenient for participants.
- Attend all-site team meetings and other team meetings as needed.
- Engage in effective recruitment efforts.
- Maintain effective communication with research participants when engaging in participant recruitment, enrollment, tracking, retention, and data collection/checking, including ensuring full and continuous informed consent.
- Maintain current CITI credentials for Human Subjects Protections, Good Clinical Practice, and other certifications as required.
- Assist with subject data management and maintaining source documents and subject files according to Good Clinical Practice.
- Follow VCU internal processes to ensure compliance with VCU policies related to research activities and ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must have reliable transportation option to make home or site visits
- Willingness to work up to 20-29 hours weekly
- Independent judgment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize autonomously
- Strong written & oral communication
- Ability to work in a fast paced, demanding environment and adapt to changing client status, regulations and work environment
- Detail-oriented organizational skills
- Highly proficient with multiple computer applications, including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel spreadsheet management, PDF file creation/use, online database use/maintenance (e.g., REDCap), internet-based research, network & online file maintenance & management, and custom report generation
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Experience in health research and/or healthcare-related field or equivalent combination of training and experience
- Experience in phlebotomy or willingness to be trained
- Experience in digital health technology (e.g., smartwatches, Amazon Echo, Google Home)
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
