Position Description:
The Project Coordinator will help implement a project funded by the National Institutes of Health/ National Institute on Drug abuse. This five-year project aims to better understand the needs and barriers faced by adults with substance use disorder in underserved communities in Richmond, VA. The Virginia Patient Engagement Resource Center (V-PERC) will create and train a patient advisory panel with people in recovery. The panel will consult with researchers regarding their grant proposals, ongoing research projects, and/or emerging research outcomes. During this project, we will also conduct research on patient experiences using both qualitative and quantitative methods. We will use the findings to inform the design and implementation of two pilot research projects focused on increasing treatment initiation and retention of treatment for substance use disorder.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Coordinator will work closely with the project lead and the other project personnel to coordinate meeting logistics, monitor project timelines, facilitate team meetings and patient panel communication, document project activities, manage data, and coordinate participant stipends and other project expenses and logistics. The job requires the ability to meet virtually and travel to meet at project sites in person.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of or experience in community-engaged or participatory research, quantitative research, and qualitative research, previous work in the field of substance use treatment, exceptional organization skills and communication skills.
Required Qualifications:
- Previous experience coordinating complex projects
- Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a hourly member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in community engagement and research
- Previous work in the field of substance use treatment or experience working with people who use substances or are in recovery
- Previous project management experience
- Background in public health, sociology, psychology, or other social/behavioral or clinical fields preferred
