Job Purpose:
Assists with planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of occupational health, safety, environmental programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. Maintains a safe operation which is organized, clean and efficient. Adheres to the policies of Viscofan USA Inc. and strives for the highest safety standards in our business operations. Manages the EHS budget of the facility.
Directs the Safety and Security of the logistics supply chain for multiple countries to adhere to the C-TPAT program which falls under the Homeland Security Department. [RF1]
Works with the Audit team to ensure documentation and presentation is ready to secure ISO 14001, ISO 4500, C-TPAT, ISO9001 and BRC annual certifications.
People Responsibilities
Directly managed: 0
Responsible for complete environmental safety within the facility to include; hazardous waste operations storage and disposal. Perform Air Quality surveys. Record and file Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all chemicals within the facility.
Key Result Areas
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including those set by OSHA and the EPA.
- Conduct safety compliance audits.
- Ensure achievement of company sustainability goals and complete headquarter sustainability KPI reports.
- Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace. Survey to identify and evaluate occupational health, safety and environmental conditions. Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices. Provide advice and counsel concerning all city, state, and federal compliance regulations.
- Develop controls for identified hazards. Coordinate the implementation of controls from results of hazard analysis. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries.
- Direct or assist in the development of specialized education and training materials. Conduct specialized safety and environmental training programs to communicate hazard control information. Assist in new employee occupational health, safety, and environmental orientation. Conduct Safety Committee meetings.
- Compile, analyze, interpret, and report accident, loss, and exposure statistical data; prepare comprehensive recommendations for corrective action to eliminate or minimize potential hazards. Review injury and property damage reports. Responsible for the overall administration of workers' compensation program.
- Direct environmental compliance programs related to hazardous wastes, air permitting, water pollution control, and community right-to-know programs. Incorporate essential occupational health, safety, and environmental requirements in all purchasing and control actions. Recommend the purchase of safety equipment and supplies.
- Conduct weekly audits and performance checks to ensure compliance is met within our audit required areas or responsibility. Audits that are inspected weekly [RF2] to meet our annual requirement are ISO 14001, ISO 4500, ISO 9001, BRC and C-TPAT areas.[RF3]
Skill and Competencies Required
- Business – Will require thorough knowledge of the facility and all local, state and federal laws and its capabilities in order to better serve the employees of Viscofan.
- Functional –Will require sound practical understanding of the facility in all facets of the business.
- Knowledge and experience –10 plus years working within Safety and Facility fields.
- Educational training required –Bachelor’s Degree Business Management, Environmental Health & Safety Certification, OSHA Safety training 30 Hour Course

Must be able to perform above duties listed in the plant and plant office. Will be exposed some dusty and noisy conditions periodically. Must be able to work with other safety personnel in corresponding plants to meet consistency. Must be able to travel periodically for training.
Safety Requirements: Certified in Safety & Environmental requirements for the State of Alabama.
