Overview
This position is responsible for setting the company strategy as well as overseeing the day-to-day operations of the business and organizing the development, implementation, and management of the organization’s operations and origination. This position will ensure that the organization’s operations are efficient and meet customer satisfaction standards. This position will also lead our Area Managers and Elevator Managers on grain origination activities as well as be responsible for leading the Operations Managers and administration of all our grain facilities.
Responsibilities
- Leadershipo Develop and implement a strategic business plan for the Company, including revenue targets, market growth, and operational efficiency improvements. o Collaborates and communicates at all levels of the organization to meet the organizations goals. o Work with Area Managers and Elevator Managers to identify key customer accounts and prospective accounts.o Provide coaching and leadership to Area Managers, Elevator Managers, Operations Managers, and other grain origination personnel within the region.o Work closely with the centralized trading team to ensure communication and collaboration between VGC and the trading. o Responsible for hiring and play an active role in building/retaining our talent bench. o Assist with development of annual budget of income and expense for the Company.o Work with senior leadership to set company objectives and KPIs.o Engage with direct reports through routine 1:1s to give feedback, resolve challenges, and align their objectives with the Company’s goals.o Set and meet purchasing volumes and budget target within the framework of margin goals.o Plan, develop, and implement standard purchasing strategies and tactics, in accordance with Company policies and guidelines.o Provide leadership with functional support over accounting, credit, HR, and other administrative departments.o Develop a competitive assessment and provide strategic recommendations for the company.o Establish marketing solutions, programs, and policies that will enhance the image of the Company.o Cultivate a culture of safety, where prioritizing preventative measures, employee engagement, and continuous improvement becomes the norm.o Maintain project timelines to ensure tasks are accomplished effectively.o Develop, implement, and maintain budgetary and resource allocation plans. o Delegate responsibilities to the best qualified employees and enforce all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, training programs, and company values. - Merchandising o Manage grain, grain products, and proper hedging procedures at terms that contribute to maximizing company profits.o Maintain relationships with elevators and farmers to meet/exceed commercial goals.o Facilitate and assist in the communication and exchange of business information, market conditions and changing crops between Commercial Team and farmers in a timely and accurate manner.o Assist in the maintenance of U.S. production and supply and demand analysis for grain commodities in the region.o Work closely with trading, accounting, and operations teams.- Operations Supporto Lead the operations managers and lead the elevator and area managers to provide operations back-up support to include managing grain inventories, storage, grain quality, blending techniques, and barge/truck scheduling.
Qualifications
o Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Business, Finance or related field preferred.o Minimum of 6 years leading a teamo Minimum of 5 years leading operations o Minimum 6 years of grain merchandising experience.o Knowledge of facility operations and best practices.
