What are the responsibilities and job description for the Access Control/Security Programmer position at Vision Integrated Systems?
About the Role
Vision Integrated Systems is looking for a skilled Access Control & Security Systems Programmer to join our team. If you’re a telecom or low-voltage pro with strong Genetec chops and solid IT/networking fundamentals — we want to talk.
This isn’t cybersecurity — this is real-world, boots-on-the-ground configuration of badge access, CCTV, intrusion detection, and intercom systems. You’ll work with hardware and software, turning schematics into operational systems across a variety of commercial and industrial projects.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Program and configure enterprise access control systems including Genetec, Open Options, Software House, AMAG, and similar platforms.
- Deploy, integrate, and troubleshoot CCTV systems from vendors like Bosch, Axis, and Hanwha.
- Interface with field techs and project managers to ensure clean installs and system turn-ups.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, device schedules, and system layouts.
- Perform site visits as needed to commission systems and verify proper function.
- Use light scripting or logic-building within platform GUIs (no full-stack coding, but Java or scripting knowledge helps).
- Support video, access, and intrusion system integrations.
- Document configuration settings, system parameters, and network infrastructure.
Ideal Candidate Has…
- Hands-on experience with at least one of the following: Genetec, Open Options, Software House, AMAG, Milestone, or similar.
- A background in telecommunications, IT support, or security system integration.
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux environments, IP networking, and basic server/client architecture.
- The ability to troubleshoot physical hardware and networked devices — you know when it’s a wiring issue and when it’s a port issue.
- Basic knowledge of scripting or logic-based programming (Java, API calls, or macros) is a bonus.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to manage time independently and keep projects moving.
Nice to Have
- CCNA or similar networking certification
- Experience leading small teams or managing install timelines
- Certifications from Genetec, Axis, Bosch, etc.
- Comfort with basic server setup and administration (local or cloud)
Why Vision Integrated Systems?

- Small team = big impact. Your voice matters here.
- Opportunities for certification and career growth.
- Competitive pay, benefits, and a collaborative work culture.
This is not a cybersecurity role. We’re looking for someone who can roll up their sleeves and make the physical security infrastructure work.
