Location: Auburn Hills

Character of Position
We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative Controls Engineer to manage the controls aspects of custom tooling and automation projects. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Mechatronics Engineering and experience developing, programming, and integrating electrical control systems. In addition to leading controls-related efforts, this position requires flexibility to support design/build work in CAD, stepping into mechanical design tasks as needed to keep projects on track.
Responsibilities
- Own and manage the controls scope of a job from concept through commissioning.
- Design, program, and debug PLC and HMI systems (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell & Siemens preferred).
- Collaborate with others to ensure seamless integration of control systems.
- Prepare schematics, panel layouts, and I/O documentation.
- Perform system testing, troubleshooting, and on-site support during build and installation.
- Support design/build activities using CAD, including creating and revising tool and fixture designs.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical input on manufacturability and functionality.
- Coordinate with manufacturing, purchasing, and external vendors to support project timelines and deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and customer specifications.
- Must be able to achieve quality and production goals.
- Follow OSHA safety guidelines, and ITAR compliance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering preferred.
- 3 years of experience in controls engineering, preferably in aerospace, or custom tooling environments.
- Proficiency with PLC/HMI programming (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley & Siemens strongly preferred).
- Experience with electrical schematics and control panel layout.
- Proficient in CAD with the ability to contribute to mechanical design/build efforts.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with robotics or motion control systems.
- Familiarity with aerospace tooling standards.
- Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic system controls.
- Experience with Catia and NX for mechanical design.
- Experience with AutoCAD or Equivalent.
