Description
Visitation is seeking a dynamic counselor for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. Partnering with parents in their role as primary educators, the counselor will carry out the mission of Visitation in forming strong and compassionate followers of Christ, through rigorous academics rooted in Catholic values, to serve and lead others.
The Counselor serves the mission of the Catholic Church by assisting scholars, their teachers and families in the area of social emotional and educational concerns, with the goal of helping individuals learn and practice life skills leading toward positive lives. The counselor provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize student competencies and skills for intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth.
The ideal candidate would have experience in an elementary school and possess knowledge of teaching. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field is required.The desired qualities that we look for in applicants are a positive and professional attitude, good communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with others. Requirements
Establish positive relationships and communicate effectively with all members of the Visitation community.
Attend all Team Meetings.
Collaborate with the Inclusive Education Coordinator.
Hold a class meeting/lesson monthly on such topics as, Circle of Grace, Zones of Regulation, Virtue Based Restorative Discipline and other Social Emotional Topics.
Connect parents with outside resources to support their child and/or family.
Support teachers in the implementation of Trauma Informed Teachings.
Follow Diocesan and legal regulations in regards to counseling of a minor.
Be a role model of Christian love, faith, truthfulness and virtue.
Establish positive relationships and communicate effectively with all members of the Visitation community.
Work with small groups and individual students to support growth.
Manage a class by setting clear expectations of behavior, establishing reasonable routines, and promoting self-discipline based on Catholic principles.
Apply Catholic moral principles and comply with the school policy in administration of behavioral discipline in the classroom. Communicate clearly, frequently, and regularly to parents about discipline issues regarding their children.
Evaluate each student's progress on a regular basis and report that progress to the students, parents, teachers, and administration.
Respond expediently to parent, students, or administrator concerns.
Stay current on the best practices in education and teaching, particularly with regard to counseling.
Supervise children during assigned duties at lunch, recess, and/or before and after school.
Serve on committees and perform other duties as directed by the administration.
Collaborate with peers to enhance the work environment and support planning.
Attend school-wide functions and special events as required.
Maintain professionalism in dress and hygiene.
Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
Acts as a witness to the Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Support and adhere to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese.
Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters.
Maintain current and accurate records.
Contact parents when necessary for concerns.
Conference with parents upon request and respond to messages in a timely manner.
Demonstrate professional work habits by regular attendance, honoring schedules/deadlines, organizing work, and conducting assigned tasks in an effective and efficient manner.
Keep the administration informed of areas of need and concern.
Requirements
Candidates for faculty positions at Visitation must:
Exemplify and articulate a life of faith in Christ.
Be in agreement with the philosophy of Visitation as articulated in the Vision Statement.
Be willing to cooperate with and support the policies of the school administration (pastor and principal)
Be passionate about educating children in a Catholic environment and about the grade/subject to be taught. Experience is preferred but not required.
Be willing to work closely with parents in the education of their children.
Be committed to academic excellence.
Be committed to continuing, lifelong learning.
Possess a Bachelor’s Degree .
