POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a Staff Counsel to join our Law Department and work collaboratively with Vistage’s lawyers, legal professionals and the broader Vistage team in contributing to the company’s success.

RESPONSIBILITIES*

Under the direction of senior Vistage in-house counsel, you will be responsible for managing a broad portfolio of issues as part of an in-house legal team focused on urgency, service-orientation and providing high-quality legal advice which contributes to advancing the company’s progress toward strategic goals. You will be required to understand Vistage’s strategic goals and how the Law Department can be an active contributor to achieving these objectives through your execution of the following responsibilities:

  • Manage a broad portfolio of issues including litigation, contracts, insurance, labor, trademark, copyright, international and other issues which arise. Respond promptly to the wide range of legal requests from across the business.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and manage outside counsel in the US and internationally. Work collaboratively with business partners from other departments to scope, understand requirements and intake new projects, meet deadlines, manage priorities and make actionable recommendations. Assure timely, informative and productive communication between the Law Department and business partners.
  • Oversee privacy law and data protection compliance in the US and internationally.
  • Review, negotiate and draft a wide variety of commercial agreements
  • Assist with all phases of litigation management, including pre-litigation correspondence and demands, discovery responses, collaborating with outside counsel, directly managing collections litigation and responding to direct and third-party subpoenas.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS*

  • 2-5 years of experience as a practicing lawyer, preferably including in-house law department work experience. Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality legal guidance with a service orientation along with the ability to develop cross-functional relationships which break down barriers to employees seeking legal advice and assistance.
  • Interest in a career as in-house counsel with a broad portfolio of responsibilities. You are energized by assignments which require you to tackle new issues and you are adept at getting yourself quickly up to speed in order to develop an action plan.
  • Demonstrated good judgement and ability to know when you can handle issues independently and when to seek guidance from senior counsel.
  • Commitment to continued legal education in order to constantly enhance and extend areas of competence and provide continually expanding value to the company.
  • Possess exceptional skills to provide actionable legal advice and the ability to productively collaborate with business units to move the company’s strategies forward while remaining legally compliant.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school; member of the CA bar or CA Registered In-House Counsel.
  • Experience managing compliance with privacy laws, data protection, GDPR, CPRA and similar requirements. CIPP, CIPM, CIPT or similar designations is a plus.
  • Experience with litigation management, contract negotiation, corporate compliance, insurance issues, trademarks, copyrights and/or labor law is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, a natural problem-solver and a great communicator with a demonstrated ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously, both independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent business writing skills; the ability to succinctly communicate with business units to provide prompt, actionable insights and recommendations.
