Job Description:

Position Summary:

The Department of Education (DOE) is seeking a skilled Database Developer to support our data warehousing and business intelligence initiatives. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into robust data solutions, including data analysis, data integration, and the development of high-performance data pipelines and database structures. The role will focus on enhancing data quality, optimizing performance, and enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business use cases and translate them into data integration routines involving extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) across multiple systems.
• Identify and document data sources, data flows, and develop comprehensive source-to-target mappings.
• Partner with Data Architects to recommend optimal data models for ingestion and support BI Developers in designing analytic reports.
• Design, implement, and maintain database structures (tables, views, indexes, etc.), ensuring security and performance optimization.
• Guide team members in developing database applications both on-premises and in cloud environments.
• Work closely with data stewards, owners, and domain experts to ensure best practices in data integrity, validation, and documentation.
• Optimize data warehouse performance through advanced tuning and parallel processing techniques.
• Support governance processes to ensure accuracy and consistency of educational metadata in BI systems.
• Monitor and ensure data quality using audit controls and proactive cleansing techniques.
• Perform regular integrity checks, manage deployments, and coordinate releases.
• Use version control tools like GitHub and CI/CD pipelines for code management and deployments.
• Provide on-call support for critical after-hours issues when required.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL Server, with expert-level proficiency in T-SQL.
• Minimum 5 years of experience with SSIS and development of complex Stored Procedures.
• 2 years of experience using Power BI for creating dashboards and reports.
• Proven ability to ingest and aggregate data from diverse internal and external sources into a centralized warehouse.
• Strong understanding of data modeling including conceptual, logical, and physical designs.
• Deep expertise in relational database concepts and SQL programming.
• Experience mentoring junior developers or team members.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1-2 years of experience with Azure Synapse Analytics (Data Warehouse).
• Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, SQL VMs, and Data Lake environments for ETL processes.
• Experience building cloud-based solutions and supporting hybrid architecture models.
