VOAC recognizes the unique needs of the older adult who needs a wheelchair ramp to stay at home safely, and the preschooler whose family needs additional resources. VOAC supports veteran’s efforts to exit homelessness as well as provides a safe place for survivors of domestic violence. Wherever VOAC goes, it combines relationship-building, volunteers and quality services to lift and support our neighbor’s efforts to become self-sufficient and reach their full potential.

**The Volunteer Specialist is responsible for recruiting, orienting and engaging individual volunteers and volunteer groups in Volunteers of America (VOA) Colorado’s programs. This position will also be responsible for the intake, organization, and record keeping of the Volunteer Services Program volunteers, including youth, family, adults and groups. and reporting.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

• Recruits, selects, orients and promptly places individual and group volunteers.  Conducts follow up with volunteers in assigned service area.  Communicates concepts and goals of VOA Colorado programs to volunteers. 
• Leads volunteer activities, makes decisions and directs volunteers using creativity and problem-solving skills as necessary within VOA Colorado programs.  
• Responsible for processing volunteer applications, including handling of all paperwork and conducting background checks. Provides quality control and legal and regulatory compliance according to VOA Colorado’s Background Check policy.  
• Assists the Senior Director of Volunteer Services and Marketing team in keeping the Volunteer Program portion of the VOA Colorado website up to date.  
• Oversees the development and maintenance of Salesforce (volunteer record keeping system). Supervises data entry and quality control of the volunteer database of all volunteers, including youth, family, adult, one-time, and group in accordance with program guidelines. This includes monthly hours of volunteer service. 
• Assists the Senior Director of Volunteer Services with VOA Colorado’s holiday and special events. 
• Understands the trends in volunteerism and publicly represents VOA Colorado in community volunteer networks.  

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements 

• Schedule is a mix between office work and event/project days. 
• On event/project days must be able to stand, walk, be on feet for majority of day (up to 10 hours) 
• Must be able to lift, carry and move items up to 50 lbs.  

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work 

• Full time  
• Hourly, Typically M-F 8:00- 4:30 
• Weekends and evenings as needed (approx. 1x a month) 
• This position is hybrid depending on business needs

 SALARY:  $22.00-$24.00/hr non exempt

Requirements

Competencies 

• Outstanding customer service skills in communicating with volunteer and paid staff, community agencies/corporations, and potential volunteers. 
• Attention to detail 
• Demonstrates compassion for helping those that are the most vulnerable in our community.  Demonstrates knowledge of or a strong willingness to learn about poverty, human service government programs, VOA Colorado’s solutions and services, homelessness, aging, veterans, at-risk youth and helping those most vulnerable in our society.

Minimum Qualifications of Position 

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.  
• Minimum one-year experience in volunteer management and/or administrative support. 
• Own transportation, valid Colorado driver’s license and proof of insurance.

• Strong computer skills required, including word processing, spreadsheet and database management in a Windows environment. 
• Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
