Exciting Announcement: We’re Staffing Up to Reopen the Shelter!


We’re thrilled to share that we are expanding our team to welcome 16 new staff members as we prepare to reopen the Young Adult Shelter! Our mission to provide a safe, supportive environment for young adults in our community is stronger than ever, and we need passionate individuals to help us make a difference.


Position: Young Adult Shelter Support Staff
Location: 3104 E. Augusta Avenue, Spokane, WA 99207

Status: Regular Full-Time and Part Time 

Must be 21 years of age or older

The Young Adult Shelter (YAS) provides a haven for young adults aged 18-24, open 365 days a year. We offer essential life-changing programs, including medical care, meals, and critical resources to support our community’s most vulnerable young people. We’re dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that reflects the variety of backgrounds and experiences of those we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with young adults with respect and empathy, understanding their unique      circumstances.
  • Manage reception duties, including greeting clients, answering inquiries, and      maintaining accurate records.
  • Conduct intake assessments and document essential client information.
  • Support the distribution of hygiene products and other necessities.
  • Assist in meal preparation and maintain cleanliness within the shelter.
  • Enforce shelter rules while providing a safe and supportive environment.
  • Participate in team meetings and training to enhance your skills.

Requirements

  

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Eligible for Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC) licensing within 30 days of hire.
  • Food Handler’s Permit and CPR/First Aid certification (to be obtained within      six months).
  • Reliable transportation and ability to pass a background check.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous work with high-risk youth or young adults.
  • Skills in time management and working independently in a dynamic environment.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Empathy and a commitment to supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Proficient computer skills for documentation and communication.
