We’re thrilled to share that we are expanding our team to welcome 16 new staff members as we prepare to reopen the Young Adult Shelter! Our mission to provide a safe, supportive environment for young adults in our community is stronger than ever, and we need passionate individuals to help us make a difference.
Position: Young Adult Shelter Support Staff
Location: 3104 E. Augusta Avenue, Spokane, WA 99207
Status: Regular Full-Time and Part Time
Must be 21 years of age or older
The Young Adult Shelter (YAS) provides a haven for young adults aged 18-24, open 365 days a year. We offer essential life-changing programs, including medical care, meals, and critical resources to support our community’s most vulnerable young people. We’re dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that reflects the variety of backgrounds and experiences of those we serve.

Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with young adults with respect and empathy, understanding their unique circumstances.
- Manage reception duties, including greeting clients, answering inquiries, and maintaining accurate records.
- Conduct intake assessments and document essential client information.
- Support the distribution of hygiene products and other necessities.
- Assist in meal preparation and maintain cleanliness within the shelter.
- Enforce shelter rules while providing a safe and supportive environment.
- Participate in team meetings and training to enhance your skills.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Eligible for Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC) licensing within 30 days of hire.
- Food Handler’s Permit and CPR/First Aid certification (to be obtained within six months).
- Reliable transportation and ability to pass a background check.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous work with high-risk youth or young adults.
- Skills in time management and working independently in a dynamic environment.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
- Empathy and a commitment to supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Proficient computer skills for documentation and communication.
