Position Title: Clinical Supervisor of School-Based Services

Overview

The Clinical Supervisor of School-Based Services supports the overall clinical program functioning and integrity of clinical services offered. Expectations regarding the quantity of work are outlined in essential functions, duties, and responsibilities.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

Program Development & Oversight

The Clinical Supervisor of School-Based Services assists in the development of the program, associated goals, and reviews program performance to ensure program alignment with VOA Alaska and Anchorage School District goal of creating an integrated model of care to reach students in need of behavioral health services. Ability to focus on referral pathways and supporting each school’s unique needs. In addition, responsible for coordinating training for ASD school staff to increase school knowledge on topics such as identifying at risk youth where behavioral health services can be of value, trauma informed care, and social/emotional development.

Quality Assurance

Training

• Develops and implements a training plan for supervised staff.
• Provides in-service training as scheduled.
• Provides a thorough orientation and continued training for new clinical staff.
• Works with assigned clinical staff to achieve Qualified Addiction Professional certification within three years of their hire date.

Supervision

• Responsible for training and supervision of clinical and other assigned staff.
• Provides feedback to supervisees, both verbally and through written performance evaluations.
• Identifies areas for continued growth and develops skill development activities and training plans to meet these needs.
• Maintains and implements agency policy and procedures.
• Supports supervisees through thorough onboarding and various dynamics and situations specific to integrated behavioral health services within various ASD school-sites.

Clinical

• Demonstrates and models advanced clinical skills in the areas of assessments, groups, individual counseling, crisis management and case management, with an emphasis on children and adolescents.
• Participates in the placement committee, coordinates intakes and assigns clients to appropriate counselor/clinician caseload.
• Coordinates clinical services with the Program Director and VOA’s leadership team.
• Responsible for and monitors the clinical relevance and quality of interventions, treatment planning, groups and other therapeutic activities.
• Reviews client reports, treatment plan and treatment plan reviews to ensure their timeliness and accuracy.
• Coordinates psychiatric services/appointments and communicates with contracted Psychiatrist.
• Will carry a small caseload of up to 10 individuals and facilitate assessments to maintain pulse on clinical services the need of services the population served is experiencing.
• The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for arranging and coordinating clinical coverage daily when changes occur.
• The Clinical Supervisor may be asked to cover client loads in the case of vacancies in staffings.

External Relations

• Assist in the development and maintenance of effective relationships with referents and allied agencies, particularly Anchorage School District.
• Participate in local networks as assigned and connects supervisees with collaborative opportunities.
• Cultivate and encourage collaboration with community members and partners to provide additional services as part of a coordinated service delivery system.

Other Duties

• Ensure the maintenance of client confidentiality and the safeguarding of client information as per Regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned or indicated and adapts to changing environments.
• Complete all assigned duties in accordance with timelines established by immediate supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• 
  Master’s degree in counseling, social work or related field
• Ability to achieve clinical supervisor licensure within 90 days of hiring.
• Five years of counseling experience, with at least one year providing mental health services to adolescents or children.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Therapy and Counseling — Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, with an emphasis on trauma informed care, play therapy and/or family therapy.
• Critical Thinking — Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
• Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
• Active Learning — Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
• Demonstrates a solution focused attitude and is a good team player.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, and some weekend hours).
• Ability to travel if required (must have own transportation).
• Ability to provide current credentials and if not current, willing to work towards certification requirements and obtain QAP within 3 years of hire.

  Work from home/In office/Schools combination: Includes structured workdays with consistent days and times. Must be available/reachable and hooked in to the VOAAK phone/ IT system and must be reachable via telephone and email during available work hours. Must have a private work area for conducting telehealth services.
  
• Remote work: This position will include various off-site locations, work in the community. Ability to work independently is vital to the success of this position while managing workflow and own client contact/scheduling.
  
• While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds. The vision requirement includes close vision.
