Job Description
Lead our fun, high-energy and knowledgeable team! Von Stiehl, Wisconsin’s oldest licensed winery since 1967, strives to enrich our community with friendly service, award-winning wines, and a laid-back environment. Employee ability, energy, and ideas contribute to our ongoing success. We are currently seeking a manager with a passion for wine to lead our tasting room team. This person encourages team members to have fun while selling and educating guests about our wines, wine clubs, and winery operations. Wine club growth and customer satisfaction are top priorities.
The Tasting Room Manager leads day-to-day operations and is responsible for scheduling, monitoring departmental labor, monitoring KPI’s, developing action plans, reviewing their team, overseeing tour experiences, assisting with club growth, assisting in the creation and execution of winery events, and sales growth within the tasting room space. This leader will help foster the vision of creating not just a space but a vibrant hub of connection and celebration.

Skills/Requirements
· Effective time management handling multiple tasks on a daily basis
· Project Management
· Highly effective communication skills across multiple departments and managers/staff
· Working knowledge of wine systems, wine business, wine in general, legal requirements, office software
· Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, POS systems, Google Docs
· Positive attitude with the ability to lead, coach, and develop staff
Position Duties
· Interviews, hires, fires, disciplines, coaches, and orientates all tasting room staff and stock boys
· Completes staff reviews at the 90-day mark as well as yearly staff reviews
· Handles and addresses staff issues and maintains records of follow-up
· Schedules staff according to business flow and labor plan and cuts, if necessary, when needed
· Leads the hospitality staff by holding accountable, coaching, and example in sales, customer service, and values of the company
· Motivates employees to sell and encourages exceptional customer service skills while fostering a culture of excellence
· Develops Tasting Room leads through effective coaching and structured training plan designed with the Retail Manager
· Annual review of training manual and training materials with Retail Manager
· Develops and schedules annual ‘bootcamp’ trainings and continuing education with the Retail Manager
· Celebrates staff successes and aids in developing, and maintaining a recognition program
· Continues to develop standards and ways to enhance or improve upon the customer and employee experience
· Oversees daily tasting room activities, sample & sell wine to customers, give tours
· Develop retail promotions with the Retail Manager to adequately maintain COGs and tracking
· Promotes club membership sales by training, aiding staff in sales techniques, and leading by example
· Assists the Retail Manager in Family Plan Club Concierge management
· Oversee tours, tour speech updates, and tour training, including special group tours, bus tours, Cruise ship tours, and all tour guides
· Leads yearly set-up and operation of the terrace bar as well as schedules staff and develops bar menus
· Sources products for the selling and serving of wine
· Sources products for retail sale within the tasting room with Retail Manager
· Coordinates and tracks Top 100 certificates
· Weekly inspection of all equipment used in the tasting room areas and reports needs to the Retail Manager
· Maintain inventory levels and management process for all items in the tasting room
· Always maintains a clean and safe working environment
· Keeps POS up to date with pricing and adding or removing items when needed
· Assist in event planning, staff, and coordination of special winery events/tastings
· Develop holiday retail strategy including but not limited to baskets, boxes, wrapped wine, gift cards, etc. with Retail Manager
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; bend; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop or kneel. The employee must lift and/or move 20-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Work Environment
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is usually indoors, in a controlled environment, and experiences a moderate noise level in the work environment.
