A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN INFRASTRUCTURE TECHNICIAN

As an Infrastructure Technician, you are involved in all fabrication, installation, and repair of summit infrastructure. You keep the structures, machinery, and equipment that make up the physical plant, telescope structure, domes, and shutters at our observatory in top condition. To ensure that you and your team have the tools and parts available when you need them, you regularly organize and check inventory. Using your fine-tuned machining skills, you perform drilling, tapping, milling, lathe turning, cutting, and grinding jobs. You collaborate with your team and supervisor to create an efficient, effective, and unified work environment. You love being part of a close-knit team that is committed to supporting each other in performing quality work and keeping our observatory operating smoothly!


QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN INFRASTRUCTURE TECHNICIAN

  • 5 years of experience performing fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of machinery, mechanical or structural systems in an industrial environment at journeyman level, or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting in at least one of the following areas: electrical systems, mechanical systems, refrigeration, plumbing, or hydraulics
  • Ability to read and understand English
  • Knowledge about mechanics, machining, pneumatics, and hydraulics
  • Working knowledge about shop fabrication practices including milling, turning, welding, cutting, forming, grinding, and assembly
  • Valid driver's license
  • Structural welding certification is preferred

An electrician license and experience working at an astronomical observatory are preferred but not required. Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment? Can you effectively priorities multiple tasks?
