The Impact You Will Have The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing payroll and ensuring efficient delivery of accurate payroll data. The individual will engage in substantially all aspects of the payroll process using the Workday system and will work with other staff to carry out these responsibilities. The Payroll Specialist will assist with the entire payroll process, timely recording of payroll accounting entries, and addressing employees’ questions related to payroll. Primary Responsibilities Monitor Payroll processing in compliance with applicable rules and regulations Develop a strong relationship and collaborate with the HR department to ensure seamless communication between the two teams Prepare and/or review payroll previews and ensure accurate payroll data Assist with the audit and reconciliation process of personnel and payroll documents, as well as state and local tax requirements Assist with payroll reports as needed (e.g., W-2s, Worker’s Comp, benefit plan, and 401(k)) Monitor and update Payroll information and resources on the company’s intranet and Workday Assist with the Time & Attendance process and send communications as appropriate Assist with all Payroll related journal entries including stock options, 401K, taxes, benefits Assist with payroll related account reconciliation preparation including benefit accounts Assist with payroll reconciliations to ensure compliance for HSA, 401K, and any other compensation items Monitor company’s payroll mailbox and address payroll related questions for employees Train employees on key payroll processes as needed and perform other duties as assigned Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred 1 plus year(s) of payroll processing experience with payroll tax knowledge preferred Experience with Workday strongly preferred Experience in a mid-sized financial services/real estate company preferred CPP designation preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to manage information that is highly sensitive and confidential Basic understanding of Payroll Tax Laws and Regulations Understanding of key financial reports, including income statements, cash flow statements and balance sheets Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and attention to detail Advance knowledge of MS Excel Strong analytical skills Demonstrates team player mentality, interacting well within a team environment Ability to multi-task and work under pressure Takes initiative and identifies new ways to approach existing processes, maintains an ownership approach to problem-solving, and regularly goes above and beyond role Open mind to learn or improve payroll process Ability to show ownership of your work, take on challenges and acknowledge growth opportunities, and demonstrate patience when learning new processes Courtesy, respect, and thoughtfulness in teaming with colleagues and other stakeholders #LI-NA1 #LI-Hybrid What We Offer The opportunity to join one of Fortune Magazine’s Great Places to Work winners from 2015-2023 Comprehensive benefit options* that have earned Walker & Dunlop the silver level of the 2022 Cigna Healthy Workforce Designation™, some of which include: - Up to 83% subsidized medical payroll deductions - Competitive dental and vision benefits - 401(k) match - Pre-tax transit and commuting benefits - A robust health and wellness program – earn cash rewards and gain access to resources that promote health, engagement, and balance - Paid maternity and parental leave, as well as other family paid leave programs - Company-paid life, short and long-term disability insurance - Health Savings Account and Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with employee resource groups organizing activities and providing a space for open communication Career development opportunities Empowerment and encouragement to give back – volunteer hours and donation matching *Eligibility may vary based on average number of hours worked EEO Statement We are committed to equity in all steps of the recruitment and employment experience.
