What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Math Lab Director (SPARKS) position at Wallace Community College?
Under the supervision of the math lab director, mathematics division director, associate dean, and/or instructional dean, the Part-time Assistant Director for the Math Lab is responsible for coordinating and implementing math tutoring sessions with WCC students and for the compilation of data in cooperation with the math faculty. The Part-time Assistant Director for the Math Lab will ensure that students adhere to established policies and procedures.
SALARY: $23.80 per hour, not to exceed 19 hours per week.
Part-time positions are posted based on the possible availability of a future assignment which is sporadic and may not occur. Available positions are contingent upon the enrollment and instructional needs of the College.
This position will be based initially at the Sparks Campus in Eufaula.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following list was developed through a job analysis; however, it is not exhaustive and other duties may be required and assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Math Lab Administration. Maintains order of math lab and is responsible for all assistance in lab if no instructor is present.
- Tutors students and ensures students questions are answered in a timely manner.
- Assists with technology problems.
- Advises students and prescribes remediation as needed.
- Administers tests when students have completed module.
- Keeps progress records.
- Compiles data for statistics.
- Assist with development of mathematics aids for specific topics.
- Assists with students notebooks.
- Reviews and/or develops videos.
- Collects, maintains, and submits course documentation and student information to appropriate College offices as required.
- Participates in curriculum development, evaluation, and revision as necessary.
- Keeps assigned laboratory areas, and classrooms neat and orderly to reflect a quality learning environment.
- Assist class instructors in tutorial obligations when available.
- Fosters students understanding of course content and material.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Reports to work on time, at appropriate workstation or department during all departmental/position scheduled work days and during all departmental/position scheduled work hours.
- Understands that failure to report for work and/or reporting late without prior approval are unacceptable practices and will result in disciplinary action.
- Performs a productive full day’s work.
- Ensures that service to students and the general public is top priority.
- Demonstrates a considerate, friendly, respectful and constructive attitude toward fellow employees and students.
- Adheres to all College and System policies and procedures.
- A Bachelor's degree and successful completion of Calculus II (or its equivalent) or higher from an accredited college or university is required.
- Teaching experience in a secondary or post-secondary educational setting or a mathematics job-related field is required.
- Ability to work non-standard hours to make resources available to students as required.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education.
