Position Summary

A clinical/lab instructor shall be responsible for providing students with the knowledge, skills and communication techniques needed for the students to meet the courses objectives related to clinical/laboratory experiences. One employed in this position closely supervises and guides students in college skills lab, simulation activities and/or in the controlled clinical setting (hospitals, health care facility) and in conjuction with the guidance of course faculty, objectively assesses student progress.

SALARY: Allied health faculty members are paid for hourly contact with students at various rates depending on the teaching discipline, academic credentials, and professional certifications. Certificate/Diploma - $19.86, Associate Degree - $22.06, Bachelor Degree - $24.28, Master's Degree or higher - $27.58 not to exceed 19 hours a week.
Part-time positions are posted based on the possible availability of a future assignment which are sporadic and may not occur. Available positions are contingent upon enrollment and instructional needs of the College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following list was developed through a job analysis; however, it is not exhaustive and other duties may be required and assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Instruction. Provide competent clinical and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.

  • Demonstrates a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline.
  • Displays an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline.
  • Connects their subject matter with related fields.
  • Maintains an assigned workload appropriate to their field or discipline.
  • Plans and organize clinical/lab in ways that maximize documented student learning.
  • Employs appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.
  • Modifies, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.

  • Encourages the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
  • Contributes to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives.

  • .Incorporates core competencies into program or discipline content.
  • Uses clinical/lab time wisely to meet course objectives.
  • Stays current in their subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops.
  • Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Student Learning. Contribute to the evaluation of students in all classes according to institutional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.

  • Incorporates meaningful student learning outcomes for courses/programs.
  • Utilizes methods that fairly measure student progress toward student learning outcomes.
  • Evaluates student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning.
  • Returns student assignments in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate records of student progress and submits materials each semester according to established deadlines.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
  • Maintain action plans based on data to support constant and never-ending improvement in the instructional process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Support of College Policies and Procedures. Performs other department activities to ensure efficient, high quality services are provided to WCC.

  • Teaches clinical/lab activities as assigned in a multi-campus environment as needed.
  • Posts and maintains regular office hours to ensure accessibility to colleagues and to students for advisement and consultation.
  • Incorporates into clinical/lab activities course syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information.
  • Substitutes for other clinical/lab instructors within field or discipline in case of an absence.
  • Exercises stewardship of College facilities and materials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Participation in College, Division, and Program Activities. Performs other department activities to ensure efficient, high quality services are provided to WCC.

  • Serves on college, divisional, and program committees as assigned.
  • Participates in meeting and events required by the college, division, and program administrators.
  • Responds in a timely fashion to information requests from college, division, and program administrators.
  • Supports both part-time and full-time colleagues.
  • Contributes to program and division curriculum development processes.
  • Participates in graduation ceremonies.
  • Provides attendance data as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Contribution to Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.

  • Maintains familiarity with College goals, mission and long-range plans.
  • Contributes to planning and development processes through appropriate mechanisms and channels.
  • Participates in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its constituents.
  • Performs professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, missions, and plans of the College, division, and program.
  • Participates in the marketing, recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Professional Development. Continue as competent instructor in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.

  • Updates knowledge and skills in subject matter field and instructional abilities.
  • Remains current in teaching discipline by one or more of the following methods:
    a. attending workshops, continuing education programs, practicums, and academic courses;
    b. engaging in individual self-study;
    c. actively participating in professional organizations.
  • Sets professional goals for each rating period.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: College Expectations. Dependability, attendance, punctuality, and a commitment to do the job right are essential at all times.

  • Reports to work on time, at appropriate workstation or department during all departmental/position scheduled work days and during all departmental/position scheduled work hours.
  • Understands that failure to report for work and/or reporting late without prior approval are unacceptable practices and will result in disciplinary action.
  • Performs a productive full day's work.
  • Ensures that service to students and the general public is top priority.
  • Demonstrates a considerate, friendly, respectful and constructive attitude toward fellow employees and students.
  • Adheres to all College and System policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Physical Therapist Assistant or bachelor’s degree or higher in Physical Therapy is required.
  • Three years successful full-time experience as a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant is required.
  • Professional license as a PT or PTA in the State of Alabama is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Prior experience teaching is preferred.
  • Experience incorporating multi-media instructional techniques into a curricula including instructional technology for web-based teaching and course management utilizing the Canvas platform is preferred.
  • Experience inspiring and facilitating learning with diverse student populations is preferred.

Available positions are contingent upon enrollment and the instructional needs of the College.

Only in the event that an employment verification cannot be obtained, i.e. business is no longer in operation, an applicant may submit a copy of appointment letters or contracts or pay stubs or W-2 forms to verify a minimum of three years of experience. NOTE: If employed, a document from a current or prior employer confirming employment experience will be required.
  • Appropriate transcript identifying the applicant, institution, date degree conferred and verifying the applicant has received the minimum required Associates's degree in Physical Therapy Assistant or bachelor's degree or higher in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution. Transcripts may be unofficial for the application process but they must identify the applicant, institution, degree earned and the date the degree was conferred. (A copy of the diploma will not suffice). NOTE: If employed, official transcripts will be required at that time.
