Instructor of English

Job Grade: 903

Campus Location: WSCC-Sevier County Campus - Sevier County Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)

Job Purpose: The overall purpose of the Instructor of English is to teach freshman composition (including dual enrollment at local high schools and at various campuses as needed), sophomore literature, learning support reading and writing, special interest courses, and independent study courses.

Essential Job Functions:

• Teach day and/or evening classes, both on and off campus in conventional and in alternate delivery modes (e.g., web-based, virtual, accelerated schedule).
• Regularly teach dual enrollment classes at area high schools or on campus.
• Participate in curriculum development, student recruiting and advising, departmental meetings and college boards and committees and perform all duties outlined in Guidelines for Faculty WSCC Policy 06:01:01.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 credit hours in English from a regionally accredited institution.
  
• Higher education teaching experience in writing required; combination of high school and higher education desirable.
  
• Experience in teaching writing in a variety of modalities: conventional, hybrid, online, DVC.
  
Ability to communicate and develop effective interpersonal relationships with faculty, staff, and students.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three or more years related teaching experience.
  
Experience teaching Dual Enrollment

Leadership & Supervisory: This position has no supervisory responsibilities, but is expected to participate as part of a team in conjunction with other faculty and as a member of the Humanities division.

Environment & Working Conditions: Office environment is temperature controlled with occasional fluctuations, well lit, and free from loud noises and unnecessary interruptions. Could be exposed to varying weather conditions when travelling.

Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):

• Large amounts of time spent looking at computer monitors could lead to some eye strain, stress, or headache issues.
• Operation of standard office equipment including copier and fax machine.
• Repetitive stress injuries could occur.
• Travel to local areas may be required.
