Position Title: K-8 Private School Teacher
Supervisor: Principal
Job summary: Are you a retired school teacher and still longing to see those little smiling faces and making a difference? This is an ideal teaching position for a tenured educator. The teacher plans, implements, and evaluates the learning process of students within the framework of the school’s mission, vision, and curriculum. The teacher provides an age appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to enhance student competencies and skills for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth toward a successful future.
Responsibilities and duties of the job include but are not limited to the following:
● Prepare, plan, and implement lessons that teach students according to the objectives, methods, and techniques as prescribed by the NC SCOS.
● Prepare and maintain a folder for substitute teachers which includes lesson plans, assigned duties and times, and emergency situation information.
● Write 9-Week Progress Reports/Report Cards as scheduled on the school calendar.
● Meet with parents to discuss student progress a minimum of twice annually (Fall and Spring.)
● Track student growth using pre and posttests for each subject area.
● Adhere to a daily teaching schedule and provide a copy of the classroom schedule to the Principal and parents.
● Adhere to a classroom Behavior Management System to manage student behavior in the classroom and provide a copy to the Principal and parents.
● Adhere to all Staff Procedures for WA found in the Staff Handbook.
● Maintain an accurate record of student absences and tardies.
● Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules of the school.
● Maintain a professional appearance and demonstrate behaviors that are conscientious and responsible.
● Attend staff meetings and other meetings as requested.
● Participate with administrative staff in meetings regarding placement of new students as requested.
● Supervision of students always.
● Communicate with parents as needed providing information on student progress and behavior via email, phone, or notes home. Maintain a log of these communications throughout the year.
● Assist with administering and recording norms of achievement tests for pre/post testing of WA students (Iowa Test of Basic Skills.)
● Implement relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
● Respect the confidentiality of WA students, parents, faculty, and staff.
● Supervise, evaluate, and plan assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
● Prepare and submit lesson plans to the principal weekly.
● Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth.
● Invest in the life of the school by attending and participating in student music programs, school festivals, monthly faculty meetings, and any and all aspects that support the student experience.
Minimum qualifications:
Certification/Education:
● Valid North Carolina Teaching License for Grades K-6
● Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year institution
Experience:
● Preferred
Knowledge, abilities, and skills:
● Strong understanding of the Reading Process, Guided Reading groups, Guided Math groups, and how to differentiate instruction
● Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate and collaborate with students, parents, faculty, and staff
● Strong command of written language and be able to teach writing components to students
● Strong knowledge of phonics, phonics instruction, reading concepts, mathematical concepts/skills and be able to teach these to students
● Knowledge and understanding of strong classroom management skills and have a set Behavior
Management System that is consistently utilized in the classroom
● Strong organizational skills
● Knowledge of child development, learning, and behavior
● Skill in keeping students engaged
