Shine Day Camp Assistant Director - Summer 2023
Shine Day Camp Assistant Director will assist and help oversee most aspects of staffing, programming, and camper relations for our summer camp season. Duties include staff hiring and training, site and resource organization and program management. Responsibilities include directing staff trainings, weekly staff planning meetings, managing camper information and groupings, maintaining fiscal records and working within a budget, maintaining camp resources and supplies, and interacting with parents, campers, staff and administration as needed. The assistant director is to help manage the program, program development and health and safety management in accordance with LARA State Licensing and Michigan Health Department.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Requirements: Affirmation of the mission, values and beliefs of Ward Church
- Experience: Leading successful teams with proven results, a demonstrated ability to problem-solve with teams, creating effective programs. Leading high impact teams, organized, and creative. Demonstrate ability to lead with clarity and to work collaboratively with peers. Experience in camp ministry or church ministry preferred.
- Skills/Gifts: Leadership, strategic planning, strong oral/written communications, team player, proactive self-starter, financial management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain an active and engaged team relationship with church staff and Shine Day Camp Staff
- Assist in the development of forms, parental information, and publicity brochures
- Be available to Day Camp staff as needed
- Ensure camp, child info, parent info, staff info, all procedures, follow State Licensing (LARA) procedures and guidelines
- Keep accurate accounting/payment records of all campers
- Secure needed supplies and funds for all Day Camp activities
- Schedule needed staff for all Day Camp days and hours
- Orientation/training of Day Camp Staff
- Help determine the weekly field trips, and making arrangements with the facilities to be visited, or coming on site
- Help develop the daily schedule with a balance of active and quiet activities, as well as assimilating Christian lesson times
- Demonstrate character-based leadership with both paid and volunteer staff
- Attain and maintain strong relationships with parents and staff
- Understand current cultural demographic of families we serve and incorporate best practices to help shape ministry to kids and their families
- Promote healthy and appropriate relationships with children and their families
- Attend weekly meetings with supervisor
- Demonstrate effective leadership in time management while maintaining a healthy balance between people and task completion
- Possess a strong ability to manage staff through delegation and appreciation
- Commit to growth and development through active learning both professionally and personally
- Develop efficient systems for classroom preparation, use, and cleanliness
- Consult with the Shine Day Camp Director regarding budgetary needs
- Ensure the safety and security of children in our care through the active engagement, verification and training of staff
- Oversee recruiting, mentoring, and development of staff
- Ensure that Shine Day Camp operates with organization and integrity
