Warner Norcross Judd LLP has an immediate opening for an HR Generalist in our Grand Rapids office. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the employee experience. This position will assist with identifying relevant people trends that will enhance WNJ’s ability to attract and retain top talent and continue to be a best place to work. The HR Generalist will work with the firm’s HR team to manage day to day HR operations by providing administrative, HRIS, benefits, performance management, employee relations, compliance, and project support.

Responsibilities include:
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for all HR functional areas with a particular emphasis on wellness, benefits, employee engagement and development opportunities, and performance management.
  • Identify and implement improvements to core HR functions using a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Serve as first point of contact in explaining human resources policies and procedures to staff.
  • Assist firm Recruiting Manager with new hire orientation and onboarding process for all new firm members.
  • Support and run the firm’s performance review process.
  • Maintain and input employee data in HRIS system and other HR systems and regularly audit HR data entry and correct discrepancies.
  • Provide regular HR reporting on People data (hires, terminations, status changes, LOAs, promotions).
  • Utilize HR tools to communicate benefit and wellness opportunities to firm members.
  • Maintain an employee recognition program.
  • Plan firm-wide internal events including Administrative Professionals Day, Paralegal Day, holiday parties, Bring a Child to Work Day, firm picnic, retirement parties, showers, blood drives and flu shots.
  • Coordinate the firm’s emergency procedures and safety processes.
  • Collaborate with department directors to create and run an administrative internship program.
  • Maintain accurate and complete files and records including electronic personnel records, benefit, medical, and I-9 files in accordance with local laws.
  • Organize and participate in quarterly meetings for committees and employee resource groups.

Qualifications Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree preferred (equivalent work experience considered).
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience and 1 year of human resources experience.
  • Experience in a law firm, or other professional services environment strongly preferred.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Possess a high level of integrity.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to plan and follow through on projects.
  • Customer service focus. Desire to provide outstanding employee experience.
  • Experience with human resources systems is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, client service, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work independently, plan ahead, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, push projects forward and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Zoom; experience with viDesktop software and ADP a plus.
