Summary and relationship to the curriculum: All classified positions will strengthen the delivery of instruction to support the system mission statement. This position supervises and coordinates activities of Grounds crew by performing the following duties.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:

 

  1. Directs workers engaged in ground maintenance activities such as mowing lawns; trimming hedges; removing weeds; and raking and disposing of leaves and refuse.

 

  1. Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies.

 

  1. Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments.

 

  1. Communicates company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

 

  1. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.

 

  1. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.

 

  1. Analyzes and resolves problems, and/or assists workers in solving work related problems.

 

  1. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

 

  1. Maintains time and production records.

 

  1. Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.

 

  1. Directs and assists workers in the maintenance, upkeep, and repair of all grounds related equipment.

 

  1. Assists in projects requiring earth moving, drainage, and associated activities.

 

  1. Directs set-up, layout, and striping of athletic fields for competitive activities.

 

  1. Directs use, storage, and safety precautions in use of agricultural chemicals.

 

  1. Supervises landscaping and beautification program.

 

  1. Performs activities of workers supervised.

 

  1. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance.

 

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the system's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Approves/denies vacation leave requests.

  1. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 5 years related experience and/or training with HCBOE; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Journeyman 5 years experience in trade. Proper License preferred.

 

  1. Certificates or License Required: Valid Georgia driver's license.

 

  1. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators.

 

  1. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.                   

 

  1. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
