What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety and Security Guard position at Warner University?
Position Summary: The Safety and Security Guard is responsible for observing and reporting campus activity, offering assistance to the campus community as needed and will assist local law enforcement and emergency services personnel as needed during emergency situations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor campus activity through foot and vehicle patrol.
- Encourage members of the community to comply with Warner University rules and enforce those rules when appropriate.
- Control access to campus buildings and other facilities according to a schedule by locking and unlocking the facilities, by performing the building checks and by checking the identification of those requesting special access.
- Identify, investigate and report activities that may be violations of Warner University rules.
- Initiate requests for assistance from outside public safety agencies when necessary to assure the safety and security of the campus.
- Prepare written reports, such as incident reports, daily activity logs, fire safety maintenance checklists and exterior light logs in a timely manner.
- Respond to and investigate the cause of fire, smoke and burglar alarms, etc.
- In cases of an immediate safety threat on campus, secure the immediate area and assist in the implementation of emergency response procedures.
- Obtain and/or maintain current CPR/AED and First Aid training certification and provide such medical assistance when needed.
- Respond to requests for assistance and information in a helpful and courteous manner.
- Provides motorist assistance on campus.
- Provide security escorts on campus when requested.
- Identify, log and report safety hazards.
- Willingness to perform other duties related to the safety and security of Warner University.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must have the ability to run for a short distance when necessary.
- Ability to climb and descend a flight of stairs quickly.
- Be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
Qualifications:

- High School Diploma or GED required (some college would be helpful).
- Valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification is preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency in cross-cultural awareness, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency in problem solving skills and be able to handle sensitive matters in a professional and confidential manner.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and demeanor at all times.
- Must be able to work effectively without direct supervision.
- Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Working Relationships: The Safety and Security Officer is a member of the Campus Safety and Security team and reports to the Campus Safety and Security Manager.
Work Schedule: This position requires the ability to work 12 hour shifts on the weekends. Additional hours and shifts as needed for significant department or university events. Schedule will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.
