OBJECTIVES
- (15%) To install, test, and turn-up new fiber optic services to homes and businesses
- (70%) To troubleshoot and repair fiber optic outside plant
- (15%) To install new fiber optic cable on WRECC system
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Fiber Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Installs fiber optic drop cables and NIDs to fiber customers
- Identifies trouble and repairs fiber optic outside plant during regular hours and after hours on call
- Installs fiber optic cables overhead in electrical space, buried underground and buried in electrical conduit
- Installs fiber optic jumpers
- Documents fiber optic network components
- Test and turn-up new fiber services
- Connects WRECC electric plant components to fiber optic cable
- Splice fiber optic cable
- Inventory fiber optic material
- Maintains fiber optic tools and test equipment
- Attends and participates in appropriate safety training sessions
- Maintains all relevant DOT documentation
- Works directly with internet partners
- Works according to safety rules and policies adopted by Warren RECC, is responsible for own safety, and reports all accidents to supervisor

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
POSITION: Fiber Optic Installation and Repair (I/R) Technician I
EDUCATION:
High school graduate or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two years' experience in installing and repairing fiber optic cable and services.
KNOWLEDGE:
Must have a basic understanding of fiber optic services. Must be knowledgeable in the framing and construction of fiber optic cable. Must be knowledgeable in the use of fiber optic test equipment. Must have knowledge of the electric system to safely work around an energized system. Must have knowledge of data interpretation for basic troubleshooting skills.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
A qualified candidate will have excellent customer facing skills. Must be meticulous in reporting and documentation for fiber configuration control. The ability to climb poles, handle a 28ft ladder and operate a bucket truck are required. Must be skilled in fiber optic fusion splicing, the use of fiber optic test equipment and OSP construction framing. Should be able to read construction prints.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Outside work in all types of weather and road conditions with considerable driving and walking. Will be in and out of truck many times per day. Fences to climb and bad dogs are not uncommon. May be asked to attend training courses related to work. Must be available for emergency work at night, on weekends, and holidays. Overtime and after-hours standby will be required.
OTHER:
Will be required to become qualified to work in the power space.
