SYSTEM INSPECTOR
OBJECTIVES
- To provide efficient and accurate field work in the evaluation of the soundness and service reliability of the Cooperative's overhead and underground distribution and transmission poles.
- To inspect the Cooperative's electrical facilities to ensure compliance with company standards, applicable requirements (RUS, current APPA Safety Manual, NESC, etc.), and generally accepted construction practices.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: System Inspection Coordinator
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Makes pole inspections in accordance with approved techniques. Determines whether pole is structurally sound or should be replaced.
- Inspects the Cooperative's electrical facilities in accordance with the line inspection program guidelines. Specifically ensures that all inspected facilities are operating efficiently, safely, and are constructed in a manner consistent with the Cooperative's construction standards. Identifies and documents dangerous conditions and reports such to the System Control Center and immediate supervisor.
- Takes inventory of joint-use attachments on Cooperative facilities. Reports clearance violations and attachments that have been inappropriately made to supervisor. Determines appropriate action to correct violations.
- Inventories new facilities and roadways with GPS equipment as assigned.
- Installs guy wire markers, uncovers buried anchor eyes, and repairs broken pole ground wires.
- Applies labeling on all underground enclosures to the current ANSI labelling standards.
- Obtains a working knowledge of RUS construction specifications, applicable portions of the National Electrical Safety Code, state and local codes and ordinances, and current Cooperative policies relative to providing service.
- Obtains a working knowledge of computer-based mapping system hardware and software. Has the ability to navigate and produce maps and other documents associated with the line inspection program. Promotes the use of this technology to all other employees.
- Cleans right of way and undergrowth around pole necessary to perform inspection.
- Assumes responsibility for maintenance of tools, transportation, and work equipment assigned to section.
- Consults with member for permission to take Cooperative's transportation equipment onto member's property.
- Reports idle services and idle primary extensions to Field Engineering Supervisor. Takes appropriate action assigned by supervisor concerning these idle facilities.
- Works according to safety rules and policies adopted by Warren Rural Electric; responsible for own safety and reports accidents to supervisor.
- Reports all meter tampering/possible theft of electricity to the District office where the tamper/theft occurs.
- Complies with traffic laws, regulations, and safe practices while operating a company vehicle.
- Such other duties as may be assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
POSITION: System Inspector
EDUCATION
High School graduate or Equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
Must be experienced in meeting and dealing with the public. Proficient in Microsoft Office Products.
KNOWLEDGE:
Must have a working knowledge of electric utility systems, the National Electrical Safety Code, Rural Utility Service Construction Standards, current edition of the APPA Safety Manual, other safety regulations, standard utility construction specifications and construction contracts, materials and practices.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Must be proficient in the use of personal computers, operating systems, and applications such as spreadsheets, word processors, and databases. Must be familiar with service area and able to read and interpret system maps in order to organize work and locate accounts. Must be able to deal with members effectively.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to perform outside work in all kinds of weather and road conditions with considerable driving and walking. Will be in and out of truck or utility vehicle several times during the day. Must keep work areas and vehicles in a neat and presentable manner.
OTHER:
Must have a valid driver's license. Must not be color blind.
Salary : $39,300 - $49,700
