Overview
The Washington Square Park Conservancy (WSPC) seeks an entrepreneurial and highly organized communications professional to serve as Communications & Marketing Manager. This new position reflects WSPC’s expanding communications needs after undergoing a comprehensive rebrand and will play an important role in implementing the organization’s new public identity and encouraging increased visibility. Reporting to the Deputy Director, this role will lead the organization’s overall communications, marketing, public relations, and advocacy efforts with the goal of raising the profile of the Conservancy to create a wider base of support for our work.
Responsibilities
- Create and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive annual communications plan and content calendar to advance WSPC’s brand identity and broaden awareness of the organization’s work
- Create and oversee a marketing/PR strategy to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with external audiences, including press and relevant influencers
- Coordinate the rollout of WSPC’s new brand identity across all platforms
- Develop and refine organizational messaging and ensure consistency across departments, including programming and development
- Manage and enhance the organization’s website by performing regular content updates, ensuring functionality and accessibility, monitoring performance, and coordinating with external developers as needed to maintain a user-friendly and engaging digital presence
- Develop and execute a social media strategy that drives engagement, grows followers, and builds community through compelling, mission-aligned content across platforms
- Plan and produce engaging email campaigns that grow subscriber base and support organizational goals through targeted messaging, list segmentation, and performance analysis
- Maintain and optimize email lists by regularly cleaning subscriber data and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations and best practices to maximize deliverability and engagement
- In partnership with Development team, craft strategy and messaging for fundraising communications and event sponsorship materials; ensure integration and consistency between fundraising database (Bloomerang) and email marketing platform (Mailchimp)
- Draft press releases and cultivate relationships with journalists and influencers to bring media attention to WSPC’s work; coordinate press interviews with relevant staff
- Create and curate high-quality multimedia content and maintain digital media archives
- Manage the design and production of printed collateral including in-park signage, marketing materials and branded swag, annual report, and fundraising materials in line with brand guidelines
- Design in-house graphics based on brand templates and guidelines; coordinate with external graphic designers as needed
- Conduct consistent analysis of communications channels and create monthly internal metrics reports
- Provide communications and marketing support for organizational events, including public programs and fundraising events
- Supervise a seasonal intern position that will support communications efforts, including social media
- Assist with additional duties and projects, including in-park programming, as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, marketing, and/or public relations, preferably in a nonprofit setting
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing successful communications strategies with measurable results
- Analytical, organized, proactive, and detail-oriented with superior time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
- Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with a range of colleagues and partners
- Experience managing a website and social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok)
- Experience using Mailchimp to create and send compelling email content
- Interest in and passion for parks and/or the nonprofit sector
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in graphic design and experience with design software
- Experience with photography, video editing, or visual storytelling
- Familiarity with digital analytics tools and experience creating compelling communications reports
Working Schedule
This position is currently hybrid, with at least three days a week in the office/park and the remaining time working remotely. After hours work or weekend work may be required on occasion due to the nature of the position. The schedule (including whether hybrid, in-person, or remote) may change at the discretion of the Executive Director.
Salary & Benefits
Expected salary range for this full-time position is $65,000–$75,000 based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include:

About the Washington Square Park Conservancy
Washington Square Park is a beloved open space in the heart of Greenwich Village in New York City. Spanning 9.75 acres, this iconic park with its signature arch and fountain is one of Manhattan’s most popular landmarks. The park serves many functions for a diverse usership, acting as a critical green space, village square, playground, mecca for music and art, a place for reading and contemplation, gym, campus quad, performance space, and more. The Washington Square Park Conservancy (WSPC) is a nonprofit organization working with NYC Parks and neighborhood groups to ensure that Washington Square Park continues as a diverse and historic urban green space through engaging volunteers and raising funds to help keep the park clean, safe and beautiful. WSPC was formed in 2012 by local leaders who saw a critical need for ongoing operational support, following the city’s $30 million capital renovation, in order to maintain its lawns and gardens, promote safety, and offer programming that serves a diverse community. WSPC is led by a full-time staff of four with oversight by a twenty three member board of directors.
