About the position
The WaTech Finance group provides financial management services to all managers and staff within the agency. These services include rate setting, business analysis, accounting, budgeting, fiscal data, and information development. The staff in the Finance group also work collaboratively with each other in the areas of budgeting, billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger accounting. This position reports to the Accounting Manager.

As an Accounts Receivable Assistant, you will be relied on to perform a variety of financial analyses of accounting and fiscal data. In this role you will be responsible to ensure accuracy and completeness of all assigned transactions for agency billing and revenue collection.

Duties

Some of what to expect with this role:

  • Ensure accurate recording of accounts receivables and revenue by means of reconciliation and analysis of developed fiscal queries or reports.
  • Perform analysis to ensure accuracy and correct any discrepancies by making adjusting entries preparing journal vouchers and recording/uploading them to the state financial reporting systems.
  • Develop fiscal queries and reports and then analyze the data, perform reconciliation, report analysis, and system research to determine proper recording and liquidation of accounts to ensure the correct accounting period for all invoicing, payments, and adjustments processed.
  • Review, analyze, and interpret agency accounting and financial records and reports for receivable and revenue accounts.
  • Maintain and monitor federal contracts to assure billing compliance.
  • Generate A-19 billings to other agencies as outline in the Interagency Agreements (IAA), option appropriate internal approvals, and sending out the A-19 to the agencies.
  • Assist in the fiscal year closing of financial records.
  • Provide updated financial reporting to management regarding aging receivables.
  • Assist with financial summary information, analysis of financial reports and development and maintenance of fiscal procedures, adjusting journal entries and uploads into the Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS) financial toolbox.

Here’s what we’re looking for:
  • Four years of professional experience in accounting such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, or a combination of education and accounting experience totaling four years.
  • Intermediate or higher Microsoft Excel skills, such as:
    • Pivot tables
    • Charts
    • Vlookup
    • IF/SumIf
Preference may be granted to applicants with the following:
  • One year of accounts payable or accounts receivable experience in a state governmental environment.
  • One year of experience applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), handling general ledger accounting, accounts payable, or accounts receivable or revenue management.
  • One year of applying state government accounting rules, Statewide Accounting & Administrative Manual (SAAM).
  • One year of experience with accounting financial and reporting systems such as Enterprise Reports (ER).
  • Accurately using a 10-key calculator by touch.

Telework:
This position is approved for teleworking. However, it has a twice-per-week onsite requirement.
