SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
A substitute teacher is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties of this position include but are not limited to:
The substitute teacher needs to follow the regular lesson plans and instructions of the absent teacher. The substitute teacher maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the assigned school and classroom; prepares and submits a summary of their work; informs the regular teacher of situations or problems encountered; adheres to school and administrative procedures; implements effective pupil handling; maintains high standards of education; provides guidance and advice to students; shows interest in students' progress; and encourages critical-thinking, analytical and creativity skills.
Substitute teachers also work with other teachers, respect personal privacy and maintain confidentiality regarding their students, and consult with parents. A substitute teacher maintains a professional appearance as an example for students; takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; monitors behavior of students and reports to the Principal any unusual issues or problems; reports evidence of suspected child abuse to authorities; supervises non-classroom activities when assigned, and does not leave students unsupervised.
When performing duties of a Long Term Substitute Teacher:
The duties and responsibilities noted above will be followed as well as, make provisions to be available to students and parents for educational-related purposes beyond the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. Long term substitute teachers attend staff meetings, serve on staff committees, and perform duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent. School Board policies will be followed at all times.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
1. Education: 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university;
AND
2. Experience: Experience working with students is desired.

Daily rate = $143 daily
Critical Labor Shortage Positions and Long Term Substituting Positions are subject to adjusted pay scales.
- Substitute Teachers will be required to commit to work 10 times per year to remain active.
Your year will begin upon your month of hire as a substitute teacher.
Substitute teachers assume the responsibilities of absent teachers. Instructions and lesson plans will be provided.

RETURNING RETIREE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS WHEN ASSIGNED TO CRITICAL LABOR SHORTAGE POSITIONS:
- Have received their first PERS payment,
- have retired from the district with effective or highly effective evaluation rating(s),
- have received average or above average confidential reference rating(s),
- must hold a current or be able to obtain a Nevada certified licensure.
Certified district positions require 2 returned confidential references, one of which must be your current or previous direct supervisor. References from relatives will not be accepted.
