Position Summary:
The Apprenticeship Coordinator will support the planning, administering, coordinating and executing of the college’s Apprenticeship Strategy for local businesses. The position will also have responsibility for ensuring both pre-apprenticeship and/or apprenticeship programs meet the necessary standards for recognition and registration with the US Department of Labor and other entities, when required. The – Apprenticeship Coordinator is also responsible for providing a broad range of services including recruitment, enrollment, orientation, and coaching of apprentices. Additionally, the coordinator is responsible for reviewing available courses and working closely with instructors, potential employers and local partners (i.e. Ann Arbor SPARK, Michigan Works! and others) to identify appropriate academic programs/coursework for the employer-based apprenticeship programs.

This is a position funded with grant funding and shall not be continued beyond the life of such funding. No continuing employment rights are implied.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate both pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs at the college in response to industry needs for growing the talent pipeline within the Greater Ann Arbor region.
  • Collaborate with staff from the United States Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship, and State of Michigan entities to have pre-apprenticeship and/or apprenticeship programs registered by following a prescribed application implementation, and documentation process.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local & regional employers through outreach, engagement, detailed record keeping in CRM/Salesforce and consistently follow through with established and prospective partners.
  • Visit, collaborate with, and recruit from schools, classrooms, community agencies, business and other events to promote apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs; gather information from interested parties and follow up with them to provide individualized information/next step.
  • Research, propose and support strategies to increase the inclusion of, access for, interest of and retention of individuals from historically excluded communities into/through apprenticeship programs.
  • Communicate with organizations and individuals to have apprentices enrolled into appropriate Washtenaw Community College academic and training programs.
  • Develop and facilitate information and orientation sessions that inform apprentices about the details and expectations of specific pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships.
  • Keep detailed, up-to-date records/statistics on apprenticeship/pre-apprenticeship programs in including student academic progress, program curriculum, grant reports, and required semesterly documentation for each apprentice then prepare reports
  • Provide coaching for apprentices to encourage them to complete their training.
  • Coordinate local and national apprenticeship related events and all processes including set up of all event logistics, registration, and post-event follow up
  • Schedule Related Technical Instruction (RTI) and other course sections for apprenticeship programs.
  • Identify, schedule and work with Academic Deans to assign faculty to provide instruction and offer academic support to apprentices.
  • Prepare and document evidence in preparation for state, DOL, and federal monitoring visits (for grant-based activity and/or intermediary site visits, if applicable)
  • Complete regular monitoring/site visits at apprentice worksites, document details
  • Deliver quality customer service to both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful and courteous manner.
  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with the mission, goals and core values of the College.
  • Maintain sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Hours/Schedule:
This is a full-time, grant funded position that will work 40 hours per week with some evenings and weekends based on business needs and to serve working adults.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of experience providing program support in higher education, workforce development, state/federal department or related community agency
  • Basic knowledge of pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships required.
  • Demonstrated competency in organizing data, maintain files, and preparing reports required.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, prioritizing and completing assignments with minimal supervision
  • High level of initiative and using personal judgement to resolve problems
  • Documented written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Proficiency using MS Word and MS Excel required; MS 365 & SharePoint preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail required.
  • Experience with student records management and CRM systems highly preferred (e.g. Salesforce, Ellucian, Colleague)
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends based on business needs and to serve working adults.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds by effectively using cross-cultural skills and abilities required.

Salary/Hourly Rate:
$47,843 -$52,627

Salary Comments:
*Current Washtenaw Community College Employees Salary is determined by BOTPolicy 5005*An Administrative Group employee whose job has been reclassified or who is promoted to a new position shall have his/her salary set at the new salary range minimum or at 10% above current salary, whichever is greater. Starting rate/salary is determined based on education and work history listed on application.
