JOB SUMMARY
The Rigger is responsible for setting up and operating rigging systems to move heavy loads, equipment, or materials in a safe and efficient manner using flags, radio and/or hand signals. This role requires knowledge of rigging techniques, load calculations, and compliance with safety regulations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect, select and set up rigging equipment such as cables, pulleys, winches, and shackles
- Safely attach loads to rigging and ensure they are secure before lifting
- Direct crane operators or hoisting personnel in the movement of loads
- Calculate load weights and determine appropriate rigging techniques
- Perform routine maintenance and inspection of rigging equipment
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards, procedures, and protocols
- Collaborate with crane operators and other workers on site
- Identify potential hazards and take appropriate action to mitigate risk
- Maintain clear communication during lifting operations
- Uses flags to direct traffic while moving loads, etc.
- Guide crane operators via hand signals and/or radios.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3 years of relevant experience
- Strong and attention to detail skills
- Must be able to work independently or with a team; willingness to be flexible as needed
- Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- Strong understanding of load-bearing calculations and rigging techniques
- Physical ability to lift heavy loads and work in a variety of environmental conditions
- Knowledge of OSHA and site safety regulations
- Certification from a recognized rigging or crane operation program (e.g., NCCCO or equivalent) preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and lift plans
- Experience working with cranes, hoists and forklifts
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Team player with a focus on safety and precision
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires constant (70-100%) use hands to finger, hearing (listening) and observing (vision), hand/eye coordination, walking and sitting. Requires Occasional (40-69%) lifting up to 25lbs, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling and feeling. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust & focus. Employee shall be able to be medically qualified by a NON-DOT or other job specific physical.
